Politicans Try Comedy At St. Patrick's Breakfast

(WBZ) SOUTH BOSTON Gov. Deval Patrick provided a huge target for the political jokesters at the annual St. Patrick's Day breakfast Sunday, and he took the ribbing gracefully, displaying a tote board to tally the references to his pricey new drapes and Cadillac.

Jokes from the St. Patrick's Day Breakfast
BOSTON -- The city's annual St. Patrick's Day breakfast served a heaping portion of jokes at the expense of Gov. Deval Patrick, whose first two months in office were a public relations catastrophe. Patrick has struggled to defuse criticism following news reports of his office redecorating, upgrading his official car to a Cadillac, hiring a highly paid appointments secretary for his wife and making an ill-advised phone call on behalf of his former employer. Here is a sampling of the one-liners targeting Patrick and others:

-- "Now we have a secretary of interior design. I can't wait to hear who you're going to pick for commissioner of window treatments," House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi, D-Boston, to Patrick.

-- "Quit hogging all the press," Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., to Patrick.

-- "The Patriots have signed a new coach for Tom Brady -- a Lamaze coach," Lt. Gov. Tim Murray joked at the expense of the star quarterback.

-- "I was talking to John Kerry before I came up. John Kerry assures me he was for this breakfast before he was against it," Sen. Joseph Biden, D.-Del., about Kerry, who did not attend.

-- "I'm younger than McCain. Then again, the whole friggin' world is younger than McCain," Democratic president candidate Biden on Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

-- "I don't know about all this talk about Dice-K adjusting to Boston and needing a translator. People say I've been speaking Japanese for years," Boston Mayor Thomas Menino comparing his own sometimes tortured syntax to that of Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Patrick says he will concentrate on image more after `hazing'

BOSTON (AP) -- Gov. Deval Patrick told an interviewer he had been subjected to "hazing" by the Massachusetts political elite as he began his term, but a spokesman later said he had been treated fairly.
"The governor has acknowledged there have been some bumps in the roads, clearly, but we're not looking back, we're looking forward," said Joe Landolfi, the governor's new spokesman.

Mumbles poking a little fun at himself ?

maybe they should have this breakfast more often

Patrick still doesn't get it. He says he's not interested in image, dude it is not an issue of image it's an issue of ETHICS or not having any.

When you make a phone call as the governor to help your friend out who has contracts with the state, that's an ethics violation.
