Drug Interdiction Question

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

I was just curious if anyone had an insight on what they look for on a vehicle if they suspect there is contraband on board. Being new to this. I use just traffic violations for the stop and then talk to the operator and passengers while using my senses. Any info on what others use as clues or red flags would be most helpful. thank you

These techniques are top-secret. To post them online, in a public forum, would result in a blanket party for all involved, the likes of which the modern world has never borne witness.

But really. What cop would ever come to a place like this and ask such a question. My advice is to just keep hiding the weed in the center console, the cops never look there.

You just might want to attend some interdiction training before you go jumping into the interdiction world and get killed!!!!!!!!

Your department must have at least one drug guy, no?

Make friends with him and maybe he'll take you under his wing.

If that doesn't work, just start knifing the tires on the cars that you stop.
If they don't deflate rapidly then they are loaded with drugs.

Read Tactics for Criminal Patrol.

I usually try to buy from them. "Yo man, I am reallllyyy hurting. It's been fifteen minutes since Dunkins' closed... can I get a hit? Come on, just one hit and I'll let you go on this thirty-five dollar cite. Come on, just a quick hit?" If I whine like that pantless dumbass who lit his girlfriends hair on fire in the movie Narc, the occupants will usually get annoyed enough to offer me some dope. If they don't have any dope, I usually ask if they have fix-a-flat and I'll take a few hits off of that... which, I suspect, is what you did before posting.

Get yourself some training. NCEA, Desert Snow, HIDTA, and don't rely on the internet for advice. Be leery of companies that sell DVDs and books. Get to a seminar, take notes, apply knowledge, make good pinches and win in court.

kryoto98,

Since you are new around here and people know that some of the folks on this site don't always play nice with the new guy, I'd like to welcome you and share a morsel of drug interdiction brilliance:

In my spare time when I am not attending law school, teaching at an academy, or working 40 hours a week at scenic Melrose PD; I get to travel around the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean teaching street level narcotics to inspiring minds exactly like you.
Normally, you'd pay a company a couple of hundred dollars for a one day class in drugs to get "bonus" tips like exactly this:

1) A lot of folks doing interdiction are type "A", really, really driven goal oriented individuals. Often they get so focused on the prize...your license and registration......that they never ever look in obvious hiding places. It's for that reason that I suggest you:
a) Get some of your best "B.C. bud", roll-up a "fatty", and put it behind your left ear.
b) In addition, put the baggy with the rest of the weed and your papers in the ashtray.
The LEO's doing interdiction will never ever see either location........remember their prize......they just want your license and registration card.

And people think interdiction is difficult!

Check back and let me know how you make out!

If you're serious about training...keep an eye out for P.A.C.E sponsored seminars. They try to run a couple seminars a year with outstanding instructors from around the country. They send out flyers well in advance and its short money if your PD doesn't pay for you to go. I've been to several in this state and out of state and they always have great and current info. Their speakers are all on the job, legit hardworking road guys that have tons of personal experience.
