You can easily make $80,000 plus a year. Don't forget down here we have take home cars too. The average income in FL is around $30,000 to 40,000 so cops do real well here. A large number of PD's in New England only pay in the low to mid thirties and most the time it's a bitch to get details when you want them. Like I said TMS goto FPCA.com there are loads of listings for cops & deputies all over FL. Also down here you can put yourself thru the Police Academy, no needing a Chief or any BS like that and most the time there's no waiting to get in. I spent over 5 years being a Special and Reserve Cop in Mass. to get nowhere, came down to FL went thru the academy and halfway thru it I was hired by a PD and they reimbursed me all my academy expenses all in under a year. Hope this helps.

Things are definatley cheaper here too, although like someone mentioned, somethings like gas are the same. Insurance is horrible. I live and work in Orange County, and I like it quite a bit. If you're concerned about paying for the academy, look at some of the state agencies. They will put you through for free.

It would be great if they did, but it doesn't happen. Details typically come down to jurisdiction, which is also quite different in FL compared to MA. Anything on the highways FHP will get it. The SO's patrol unincorporated areas of towns/cities, so one side of the road may be the jurisdiction of said city and directly across the street at a different strip mall, that could be the SO's jurisdiction. Comes down to tax money as to what area get's what department etc.
