A Santa Fe man who mistakenly thought there was a warrant for his arrest racked up 22 criminal charges when he fled police Saturday. Santa Fe police tried to pull over Glen Randolph, 37, Saturday evening in front of an Allsup's on Cerrillos. The 1987 Toyota Camry he was driving had previously been reported stolen, and officers wanted to question the driver. Believing there was a warrant out for his arrest, Randolph sped off with two passengers along for the ride. According to the probable cause affidavit, Randolph failed to stop when police flashed their lights. He wove in and out of traffic driving south on Cerrillos, then used a parking lot to turn onto Maez, where he disregarded stop signs on Rosina and Maclovia. He ran another stop sign and failed to yield to traffic as he turned back onto Cerrillos. All the while, his passengers later told officers, they were trying to jump from the car. One finally succeeded, jumping into the right-hand lane on Cerrillos. The chase continued south toward Airport, with Randolph driving erratically and running red lights at Camino Carlos Rey, Siler, Calle Del Cielo and Zafarano. Later he jumped a median and ended up in a field. The Camry struck a chain link fence, a fire hydrant, a split rail fence and a short block wall before coming to a stop. Randolph fled, but was detained a short time later. The two passengers told police they tried to get Randolph to stop, but he refused, believing police would arrest him for an outstanding warrant. Santa Fe Police Capt. Gary Johnson said once they had time to investigate, they found the car had not been stolen and there was no warrant out for Randolph's arrest. He was arraigned Monday in Santa Fe Magistrate Court on 22 counts, including aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and red light violations. According to court documents, Randolph was also cited for lack of insurance, no driver's license and an expired vehicle registration. He is being held on a $100,000 property or surety bond.
