FRAMINGHAM - One unlucky shoe store customer - who police said had $5,000 worth of stolen watches stuffed in his car and two warrants issued in his name - was arrested Monday night after he apparently asked two plainclothes officers to help him find a new pair of shoes. That is "something you don't want to do if you're stealing things," said Framingham police Deputy Chief Craig Davis.
Thomas Digaetano, 25, of 452 East 8th St., South Boston, was arrested at the Sports Authority store on Route 9 at about 10 p.m. Monday and charged with possessing stolen items worth more than $250, plus two outstanding warrants tied to charges of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and possession of burglarious tools, said Davis.
Davis said Digaetano was at the store, along with the plainclothes who were police working on a separate investigation.
While the officers were talking to store employees, they witnessed Digaetano try on a new pair of shoes, put his old pair into a box and place it onto the store shelf, said Davis.
