Recently, there was a debate on a popular radio talk show about how some police officers at the city and state levels are making anywhere up to $150,000 extra per year on extra paid details, and why should this be.
My opinion is to let the police officers make as much as they can. They are criticized for acting too slow, for acting too fast, they are questioned and second-guessed on something that they had a half-second to decide (and that you thank God you never had to decide).
In recent months, we read of executives who were fired for bad conduct, poor management and just not doing their job. They are rewarded sometimes with millions of dollars in retirement bonuses, even though they had vacancy of the cranium.
Let these men and woman who protect us 24 hours a day, seven days a week earn what they can to make their quality of life and leisure time better for them and their families. They give up weekends, holidays, family dinners and a whole host of other things.
These jobs are not political plums in a nice office with an expense account; they are on the street, nitty-gritty, keeping us safe from each other.
They deserve the best and, for those who don’t think so, the next time you are in trouble and need help fast, who are you going to call?
Think about it.

It is wonderful when someone actually sticks up for the police.
