WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) -- Leominster Police detective Joe Siciliano's boxing comeback may have ended when he was stopped in the second round by Eric "Butterbean" Esch.
Esch, weighing more than 400 pounds, knocked down Siciliano three times before the referee stepped in to stop the bout at 1:10 of the second round Friday night at the Palladium in Worcester, the Telegram and Gazette reported.
Siciliano (4-4-0, 2 KO) was knocked down midway through the first round when Esch hit him with a right to the body. In the second, Esch dropped the 49-year-old drug detective and part-time boxer with rights to the head.
The 313-pound Siciliano said he may retire from professional boxing.
"I was outclassed," the 49-year-old said. "I thought I held my own for a little while. He's more experienced, and a lot more powerful. I tell you, I hit him with some shots to the head that didn't even seem like they fazed him."
Butterbean improved to 77-7-4 with 58 knockouts. He shrugged off a drink of water from his corner after it was over.
