They'll pick one of the harley's.........you just wait and see

BMW has pushed hard for police contracts. California Highway Patrol went to the beemers a few years ago and now Cambridge has a few.

should be interesting to see how they hold up to wear and tear. not many BMW dealers left , so decent service might become an issue

The BMW's are nice bikes, but they don't have the command presence of the HD

R U serious? A motorcycle with command presence? Maybe an M-1 Abrams or APC. Maybe if one bike was a Honda XR-50 and the other one was a Goldwing, i could see a minor difference in "command presence"

Having owned BMW and Harley bikes for many years I would have to say the prize goes to BMW.
Spend eight staight on a bike and my $$$ is on the BMW for comfort and performance.

Get off the BMW to go ride with you hombres then Harley gets that prize for the coolness factor alone.

Couple of bordering towns switched from Harleys to BMW bikes. The officers say it is a much better bike and handles better.

Posted by: pahapoika

the big Harleys do look better.

the BMW's are faster and handle better.

i like to see cops on american machines.

can you push a car off the expressway with a beemer ?

the Mets use to do it with their Harleys

1. I bought a brand new FXB Sturgis in 1982.....WAYYYYY before it was cool and before some here were even able to go the toilet by themselves.

2. Harleys are assembled by fellow americans, but you would be surprised at the tangible percentage of parts that are foreign.

The BMW's and most other bikes are SUPERIOR to the Harleys. Hell the Polaris Victory is a rock solid platform that doesn't flex like spaghetti, and the brakes actually work! That's an American Bike. I rode one and would buy one before a Harley.

Harley is about ATTITUDE, Not about Quality/performance.

Posted by: pahapoika

have heard good things about Polaris , but not crazy about that Arlen Ness inspired full dress "Vision"

my first Harley was a 1976 FXE ( used ) and even that had Jap parts !

the new FLH has a frame flex issue that the MoCo won't address , so maybe BMW is the future

still like my H-D , us old guys don't go fast anyways

just came back from bike week in FL.. the way those m/c cops whip those HDs' around was impressive..middle of the(tiny) street u turns, boards touching down on the street at 3-5 mph. and on the hiway,a pack of us,12-15 bikes, cruizin at 75,and they blow by in 2x2. sooo cool. as long as there not on my ass with the rollers,im a happy guy.
id agree with the service issue reguarding the BMW. they would have to step up their presence considerably to compete with HD. iv have a few english bikes, and finding a good mech is not easy. not like HD which is everywere. i have a buddy with a shop, non HD dealer, that services state and local HDs. and hes 1/2 mile from a dealer. not to mention HDs are dependable, fairly easy to service, parts readily avalible, and upgrades abound.

id guess you'd be hard pressed to get alot of these guys to give up the Harleys. not that they'll have a choice in the matter.
