Got tips for a teacher becoming NH Trooper?

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

I'd appreciate any advice from an experienced NH Trooper.
I'm changing careers from high school teacher to state trooper. New Hampshire is my #1 desired destination. I'm 35, have 3 years Army, 3 years National Guard, a masters in teaching, no law enforcement experience, drove with a suspended license in 1990, marathoner in great shape.

In New Hampshire what does the "strong recruit candidate" look like?
Thanks for any info.

well , looks like everyone's busy this weekend to field any answers

i work state corrections , but i can tell you NH troopers like other state cops are squared away and all business.

the military background is always good ( thank you for your service ) and being in shape is important as well.

given what condition some of the schools are in , that might count as law enforcement

the benefits sound great and New Hampshire is a great state for most anything in terms of recreation and scenery , mountains , ocean , lakes , etc

the downside would be 2nd or 3rd shift , working holidays and weekends, dealing with all the jerks from Mass............

haven't had allot of dealings with the NH state police , but they have all been positive

good luck

Thanks for the info. NH sounds great. I'm ready.

Did you get caught driving with a suspended license in 1990? If you did, and it was a misdemeanor conviction, according to their website it is an automatic disqualifier.

I guess I need to find that out. I'm not sure if my license had expired or was suspended due to an unpaid ticket. That was long ago.

Justanotherparatrooper lives in NH, he might be able to get you familiar with things.

Sorry, I cant help...Im not LE. thanks for serving.nh is a great state to live in.Housing can be expensive though the price of houses has dropped a little.People bitch about the property taxes but thats the only real tax we get nailed with unless you have a business.

If you have read all of the posts on the NHSP and have any questions, pm me and I would be happy to get you up to speed. Your suspension issue seventeen years ago does not sound like an item that would dq you. My opinion, now is a great time as things are looking promising for the future of the NHSP. Great place to live, raise a family, and close enough to Boston to take in the "major" city offerings.

Good luck.
