Bail revoked when suspect fails test

By Rushmie Kalke TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF

WESTBORO—
A woman awaiting trial for an alleged drunken driving accident that killed a Shrewsbury man last September was held without bail yesterday after being caught with a blood-alcohol reading of .126 percent.

Alison J. Voorhis, 47, whose last known address was 83 West Elm St., Hopkinton, was given a sobriety test by a probation officer Thursday, Assistant District Attorney Harold F. Johnson said in Westboro District Court, and the blood-alcohol reading violated a pretrial condition that she not drink alcohol. The test was administered about 11:20 a.m. at her new undisclosed residence. Judge Vito A. Virzi impounded the case yesterday.

Ms. Voorhis’ lawyer, Angelo P. Catanzaro of Ashland, told the judge, “It has become clear… that Alison Voorhis has a serious drinking problem.” He said the anxiety of being given a sobriety test caused her to drink and that she has been struggling with alcohol for a couple of years. “The devil is alcohol for her.”
