Yesterday's shooting of a 15 year old boy in his home, the third such gang-style killing in South London, has caused the London Metropolitan Police to take the unusual step of sending armed officers out on patrol. The BBC reports today that the action was taken as gun violence among London teens has spiked in recent weeks. While British officers on special details and SWAT officers carry firearms, this is unusual in that officers on patrol will be armed. The armed officers are a part of a special task force which is going to be utilized in the fight to take back the streets.
