Which would give me more LE experience joining the Air Force Security forces, or going active duty with the coast guard, also what position would i enlist in the coast guard??

Unless the Coast Guard has changed, after you complete basic you work somewhere as a non rate. You will work until there is an opening in "A" school you want. You could end up at a small boat station and doing LE or an air station and hardly ever see water. The Coast Guard is not having a problem with recruiting. I doubt you will heve a tough time with a recruiter.

There are ways to increase the likelihood that you will do law enforcement in the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard does not have an LE rate (MOS). Most of the law enforcement work at small boat stations is done, oddly by MKs, the engineers. The BMs, boat drivers, can't board because they are driving the boat. If someone were entering the Coast Guard and wanted to get as much le in a 4 year enlistment, I would suggest enlisting as an MK.

Neither.

why not MP in USMC? ARMY? Try national guard if you want to go for a hike for one weekend a month two weeks a year. USAF has too many personnel so your odds of getting what you want are slim.

I'm simply answering his question... the CG does not have a quote unquote military police... they do afford experience with weapons systems. With air force security forces he could end up guarding a missle silo in the middle of a Nebraskan corn field for 4 years. Doing this will not provide any related LE experience. I don't believe that it really matters though. The important thing is erning veterans status to help in attaining a career in LE once out. Once in the LE field he can learn what he needs to learn.

Good job Bill! That's the articulate and detailed answer he deserved!

I'm in Security Forces right now, i started out of Otis and now i switched to Westover. It's pretty good training and as far as deployments and assignments Air Force is definitely the way to go. It also looks pretty nice on a job application. if you're choosing between the two i'd say go with security forces

Hey AFchris77, I heard you didn't go to Westover, they keep saying that Otis didn't approved of the transfer, you might want to find out and see what the heck is going on.
