NEW BEDFORD — Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson has once again come to the rescue of a money-pressed municipality with inmate labor. House of Correction inmates yesterday began assisting city crews in the clearing of brush and trees from the approach lights area of Runway 5 at New Bedford Regional Airport.
Yea, because i'm sure he's sending out the pre-trial Rapists and Murderers to perform the work.

Oh come on guys and gals, Hodgson scored another popularity point. I like the way he points out that he offered this service to the Mayor of New Bedford back in December but was ignored.
Next to Hodgson Mayor Lang has to be right up there for camera addiction and press hogg. This time he got checked. Face it folks do you think the New Bedford taxpayer cares who is cutting the grass? All they know is by having prison labor do it that is one less reason for their taxes to go up again.
Hate sheriffs or love them give this guy the grudging respect that he knows how to woo the average ham & egger on the street, not to mention the senior citizens who vote!

Inmates in Berkshire County do a lot of good work. A lot of trash gets picked up on the Rt. 8 for free that would just sit there if they didnt do it. They also do work cleaning up cemetaries, and painting fences and other public structures. I am all for FREE inmate labor for the low risk inmates.....As for giving them something inherently dangerous that is an obvious weapon, I don't agree with that, even with the "low" risk inmates.

The program is great for towns free labor. It really sucks for the c/o when the nice inmate's tuck stuff and bring it back to population.

yup , the old sheriff knows how to drum up the positive press for his own agenda and the officers inside the jail are still the lowest paid and over disciplined CO's in the state.
the Lt's are using their seniority to take the hospital trips in hopes for some travel time O/T
but you can bet there's nothing wrong with the sheriff's paycheck
sadly his little media stunts will get him re-elected
