Why you should never trust a badge alone

This place is scary.....badges, patches, fake guns, pretty much everything your prospective fake cop needs. Combine this with an order from Gall's, and you're in business;

http://www.collectors-badges.com/

If any cop I stop ever gives me shit for verifying who they are, I'm pointing them to that website.

One of my closest friends is an officer up here in So Central NH.
His philosophy is simple, if he stops a tin flasher without an ID, he calls the dept. directly on his cell. If it checks out; 99% PC.
No corroboration? You can guess what happens next.

You'd have to have some balls to pull a fake badge during a traffic stop. I think it would be used to pull over unsuspecting citizens.

All you need is an ID from the P.D or the Sheriffs office you work at to buy Badges in some of the police supply stores. It gets under my skin where I work because All the case workers, programs people, teachers, subtance abuse people, unit managers and office personel have wallet badges. They are not officers, didnt go through an academy and dont wear a uniform but they all have them and probably flash them around when they can.All from the police supply store. I hope you all check ID's and most of all if someone is ignorant enough to make pulling out the badge his first move before speeking to you hes a ass. Thanks for the post delta even though I dont deal with anyone showing me thier badge but info is always nice to have. We do have cops visit inmates that show the badge. It would be pretty ugly if they were not real cops.

There is at least one officer I know who always calls the department to verify that the officer is still employed there. He says he's run into a few people who've held IDs for years after they left law enforcement.

JoninNH all police officer should be doing that, but we always assume they still in the force.

You're 100% correct.

On a related note, different departments have different policies when someone calls to verify an officer's identity. Some departments notify the OIC or the officer's supervisor that a call was made to verify their identity. Then you get to explain why you got pulled over the next day!

That's good, we should try to lead by example and obey the law, but sometimes we are the first one that break them, and i'm guilty as well LOL
