Two bicyclists struck by SUV in Dennis


Rescuers work on a bicyclist after he was struck by a Jeep in Dennis.



DENNIS - Two bicyclists were injured when they were struck by a SUV.
The two were riding on a bike path along Old Bass River Road when the SUV came out of Debbies Lane and collided with them.
One of the riders was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with an arm injury.
The other was not injured.
Dennis Police are investigating the crash. No word if any charges will be filed.

Speed leads to Dennis drug bust

DENNIS - Speeding led to the arrest of a Dennis man on drug charges. About 8:30 PM Wednesday Patrolman John Brady observed a 1995 Toyota Corolla traveling east on Mayfair Rd. in South Dennis at an excessive speed. Ptl. Brady subsequently stopped the vehicle and identified the operator as 17 year old James W. Williams of South Dennis.
Further investigation revealed that Mr. Williams was operating the vehicle without being licensed and he was placed under arrest. Following his arrest the officer reportedly discovered a small amount of marijuana and four grams of cocaine on Mr. Williams' person. Mr. Williams was additionally charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Cocaine with intent to Distribute.
Mr. Williams was released to state custody for a violation of the terms of his probation on a previous matter. Mr. Williams is scheduled to appear in Orleans District court to answer to the above charges. The drugs seized are estimated to be worth $500 on the street.

Chatham woman faces fourth OUI charge after crash

CHATHAM - A local woman was charged with her fourth operating under the influence of alcohol (OUI) after a crash Wednesday afternoon that stalled beach traffic for over two hours. Police say 42-year old Rosemary Seaver struck a utility pole on Barn Hill Road forcing the closure of the road until NStar could clear live wires from her vehicle and the snapped pole from the roadway. In addition to OUI she was charged with operating with a revoked license, operating to endanger and marked lanes violation. Seaver and a passenger 40-year old Douglas Hastback of Chatham were treated for minor injuries at Cape Cod Hospital. Power in the area was out for several hours.

Inspection sticker leads to drug bust



YARMOUTH - An expired inspection sticker led to two men being arrested for drug violations. About 2:45 PM Wednesday Patrol Investigator Scott Lundegren and his partner Patrol Officer Justin Haire-observed a 1992 Chevrolet K1500 SUV traveling east on Route 28 with an expired safety inspection sticker.
The Patrol Officers stopped the vehicle and say they observed an open bottle of beer on the floor of the vehicle. Both subjects in the vehicle stated that they had been drinking but that they were both over the age of 21 and not intoxicated.
As the operator 29-year old Kedrick K. Edwards of Hyannis exited the vehicle-a clear plastic bag of marijuana was observed on his front seat by police. A check of the passenger 25-year old Roderick T. Brown of Memphis, TN revealed several individually packaged crack cocaine rocks and pills in a baggie in his pants pocket. A field test of the drugs by the use of a narcotics test kit confirmed the presence of cocaine-marijuana-and opiates. All drugs were seized as evidence along with $140 cash.
Kedrick was arrested for possession of an open container of alcohol and possession of Class D. Brown was charged with possession of Class A with intent to distribute and possession of Class B with intent to distribute. Both subjects were transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and subsequently transferred to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment. Mugshots furnished by YPD.



Crash closes Route 28 in Hyannis
HYANNIS - A two vehicle crash closed down Route 28 late Wednesday evening. The crash happened about 11 PM at Lincoln Road. Authorities closed down the road while one of the victims was extricated. Ambulances from Hyannis and Centerville transported victims to CCH. Further details were not immediately available.

Search continues today for missing kayaker in Marstons Mills

Local agencies amass in Marstons Mills this morning, only kayak found


MARSTONS MILLS - Last night around 7:30 PM Barnstable PD and Centerville, Osterville, Marstons Mills (COMM) fire department got a call from a home at 48 Sawmill Road in the Marstons Mills section of the Town of Barnstable of a missing person. The 24 year old man had reportedly been out kayaking on Middle Pond.
A search was started by the fire department and dogs from the sheriff's department Wednesday evening. They searched the lake for several hours and only found an overturned kayak.
The local police, fire, State Police chopper, State troopers and divers returned this morning and continued the search.
On right the family gives details to police as two police boats continue their search today.
Late in the afternoon officials suspended operations again until Friday morning.

Another beautiful day along scenic Route 28 in Centerville. The traffic snarled for an hour after a pick-up hit and killed a deer.

Deer meets pick-up. Pick-up wins.



At 1 pm today while Barnstable Police was involved in a missing kayaker search on Mystic Lake about 1 mile away at South County Road in Centerville and Rt 28 they got a 911 call that pickup truck traveling North on Rt 28 near that corner had collided with a deer.
Cotuit, Osterville Marstons Mills fire who was also handling the search sent an engine there.
The front of the pickup truck was badly damaged and the deer was on the grass on the shoulder of Rt 28.
The owner of the truck was shaken up but not hurt. The accident closed the North bound lane of Rt 28 for about 45 min to a hour till the flatbed came for the truck and Charlie Lewis the Barnstable Animal Control officer arrived to take the deer away in his van.
Someone remarked that very unusual in summer, in daylight and at this time of day for this to occur. PHOTOS BY FRANK PAPARO

Rescuers find missing teen in Mashpee
MASHPEE - A successful end to a search in Mashpee after a 15-year old boy is reported missing around midnight. About 3 hours later Mashpee fire and rescue personnel found the boy in a wooded area tired but uninjured.

Fire damages treatment center building
FALMOUTH - A fire caused extensive damage to a building at the Emerson House complex on West Falmouth Highway late Thursday. Firefighters responding to an alarm discovered the fire around 10:45 PM, It appeared to be centered in the attic of an annex building. The Emerson House is part of Gosnold of Cape Cod a substance abuse treatement center. Everyone made it out of the building safely and no imjuries were reported. Officials believe an electrical problem caused the fire.

Girl luckily escapes injury after car hits bike

A lucky little girl with paramedics after her bike (right) was struck by a car.




HARWICH - A little girl was very lucky to escape injury after her bike was struck by a car in Harwich.It happened about 5 PM on Route 28 by George's Pizza House.

Paramedics checked out the girl while officer Harwich Officer Paul Boorack (right) interviewed the elderly driver. Police say it appears the girl darted out into traffic without looking and no charges will be filed against the driver.

Armed robber quickly caught in Hyannis



HYANNIS - Barnstable Police make quick work of an armed robbery in Hyannis. They were called to the Cumberland Farms on West Main Street about 11:45 PM Thuesday where a man had reportedly robbed the clerk at gunpoint.
Within about a half hour using a K-9 dog police arrested 38-year old James Rothwell of Centerville on armed robbery charges. The clerk was not hurt. Police say Rothwell got less than $200 out of the register.

Traffic alert: A crash after 4 PM on Route 3 southbound in Bourne before the Sagamore Bridge is causing delays trying for the afternoon commute and visitors trying to get on Cape. Rescuers reported having to extricate two people from the wreckage. The severity of injuries was not immediately known.

Boy nearly drowns, Medevaced to Boston


This was the scene at Barnstable Airport in Hyannis of Medflight for a Dennis 2 year old boy who suffered a near drowning today. The Dennis EMTs and others transported the boy to the waiting MedFlight.

A little boy around two years old, at a swimming pool at private residence, corner of Sea Street and Route 28 in Dennisport, was reported crying, which was a good sign, when rescuers arrived but given amount of time under water decision was made to
medflight to Children's Hospital in Boston.

Explorer vs. Maxima: Attempted turn ends in failure



South Dennis - At about 11:10AM Saturday morning a Nissan Maxima and Ford Explorer collided on the curve near the intersection of Main Street and Center Street in South Dennis, just down from Trotting Park Road.
The Ford was attempting to turn left onto Center Street when it was struck by the Maxima.
The woman driving the Explorer refused treatment but the other woman was transported to CCH by Dennis rescue.

Fire damages garage of Sandwich home
SANDWICH - Fire damaged the garage portion of a home in Sandwich early Saturday morning. Firefighters found smoke showing from a three bay garage at the house at 1 Groundcover Lane shortly before 5 AM. The fire was quickly knocked down and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Man critically injured in fall
MASHPEE - A man was critically injured in a fall in Mashpee shortly before 7 PM. The man in his mid 60's reported fell about 8 feet. Rescuers called for a Medflight helicopter. It was not clear how the man fell as further details were not immediately available.

Crash slows Cape getaway
BOURNE -

Suspended license leads to drug arrest


YARMOUTH - A suspended license led to a man being arrested for drug possession. About 11:50 Friday morning Police Detective Eric H. Nuss observed a subject known as having a suspended drivers license operating a Toyota Avalon eastbound on Route 28. Detective Nuss stopped the vehicle as it pulled in to the parking lot of Nick's Barber Shop on Route 28 in West Yarmouth. Nuss confirmed the operator's identity and license status and placed 18-year old Thomas M. Latanowich of West Yarmouth under arrest. Yarmouth Police Patrol Investigator Christopher Van Ness arrived and transported the suspect to Yarmouth Police Headquarters.
An inventory of the vehicle prior to impoundment reportedly revealed a clear glassine baggie of cocaine powder and a similar baggie of marijuana. With the assistance of Deputy Charles Young of the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office and his canine Morgan-four additional individual baggies of cocaine was found inside the driver compartment area.
$2,331.00 cash was seized from the Latanowich's pants pocket and seized as evidence of illegal drug distribution. In addition to operating after suspension Latanowich was charged with possession of Class B (cocaine) with intent to distribute and possession of Class D (marijuana). After the completion of the booking process Latanowich was transported to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment. Mug shot furnished by YPD.

Several cars involved at intersection at Route 28 in Marstons Mills




At 11 AM today Barnstable Police Department and Centerville, Osterville, Marstons Mills rescue responded to yet another accident at this now-infamous intersection at Routes 28 and 149.

This has been the 4th motor vechicle accident at this place in the past few weeks with injuries.

Police and rescue found one car with plates on the shoulder at 28 & 149 and the other acrosson Old Post Road south of the intersection.

One person was taken to Cape Cod Hospital as a priority.

But the traffic in the North lane of 28 was jamed as usual.

The red pickup truck next to rescue was not involved but the occupants told the reporter that they were just behind the vehicle stopped and called 911 and waited there till PD and COMM arrived.

The top photo shows the scene and the traffic jam on Rt. 28. The car on shoulder (small SUV) is across the highway on Prince Avenue.

Girl seriously injured in Bourne
BOURNE
- A girl was seriously injured in an incident on Briarwood Lane in Monument Beach around 3:30 PM. A Medflight was requested but unavailable at the time so the victim was rushed to Tobey Hospital in Wareham where reports say a Coast Guard helo was responding to fly her out. Further details were not immediately available.

Alleged OUI drugs driver causes 2 crashes along Route 28 in Hyannis
HYANNIS - A driver allegedly under the influence of drugs was reportedly responsible for two separate crashes shortly before midnight along Route 28 in Hyannis that shut down the major route for a time. The first crash happened near the airport rotary. The suspect vehicle then reportedly continued down Route 28 before striking a utility pole by the town DPW garage. The driver 20-year old Laura Kelley of Marstons Mills was arrested by Barnstable Police for operating under the influence of drugs (cocaine and heroin), operating to endanger, leaving the scene of an accident, and failing to yield.


Woman Medflighted after collision between motorcycle, SUV
YARMOUTH - A woman was seriously injured after his motorcycle collided with an SUV at the Route 28/Main Street "Four Corners" intersection near the Bass River Bridge. 39-year old Leila Botsford of Centerville the motorcycle operator was taken to Cape Cod Hospital and then Medflighted to a Boston Hospital. Her husband was on another motorcycle and witnessed the crash. No one in the SUV was injured. Botsford reportedly told investigators solar glare from the setting sun prevented her from seeing the signal light was changing to red. A passing Dennis ambulance crew administered emergency treatment until Yarmouth crews arrived. Yarmouth Police are investigating the crash.

Shoplifting, assault reported in Hyannis

HYANNIS - Barnstable Police are investigating a reported shoplifting that apparently led to the store manager being assaulted. About 7 PM police responded to the Super Stop & Shop in Independence Park. Three alleged shoplifters were confronted by the manager. He was reportedly assaulted by one of them and the three fled the store. One was reportedly brushed by a passing car and knocked out of his shoes. The manager was not seriously injured. Barnstable Police caught one of the suspects a short time later in the woods. The other two were still at large as of press time.

Girl seriously injured in Jet-Ski accident in Bourne
"We had an available helicopter and were one of the best options for a hospital to hospital transfer," said Lt. Pat Petraca, of the First District Operations Center. "The flight only takes about 20 minutes, so we knew we could get the little girl help very quickly."BOURNE - A girl was seriously injured in Monument Beach around 3:30 PM. Reports say the girl fell off the back of a Jet-Ski in Phinneys Harbor and was struck by a second Jet-Ski. A passing boat pulled the 10-year old girl from the water and brought her ashore by Briarwood Lane to meet an ambulance. Medflight was requested but unavailable at the time so the victim was rushed to Tobey Hospital in Wareham and then flown by Coast Guard helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

Victim Lifeflighted from Dennis after reported diving mishap
DENNIS - One person was injured in the Crowes Pasture conservation area in Dennis Saturday afternoon. Sources tell Cape Wide News a person may have dove into shallow water and suffered possible spinal injuries. The victim a 26-year old man was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital and them Lifeflighted from Barnstable Municipal Airport to Boston Medical Center.

Four injured in Falmouth crash
Two teens in Boston hospital seriously injured

FALMOUTH - Four people were injured in a head-on crash in Falmouth Saturday afternoon. The crash happened on Sam Turner Road about 2 PM. At least one person had to be extricated from the wreckage. A passenger in one car 18-year old Corey Murphy-Barrows of East Falmouth was Medflighted to Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. The driver of that car 18-year old Steven Rioux of Falmouth was taken to Falmouth Hospital and then driven by ambulance to Brigham & Women's in Boston. The driver of the other car 44-year old Pamela Soque of Falmouth was treated and released at Falmouth Hospital. Her passenger 73-year old Dolores Boncales was also taken to Falmouth Hospital and was listed in fair condition. Falmouth rescuers called for ambulances from Mashpee and Cotuit to help transport the victims. Falmouth Police cited Rioux for operating unlicensed, operating negligently to endanger and marked lanes violation. Falmouth Police continue to investigate the crash.

Motorcyclist injured in Sandwich
SANDWICH
- A motorcyclist was taken to Falmouth Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries after apparently hitting soft sand on the side of the road on Route 6 westbound. Sandwich Police are investigating. Further details were not immediately available.

Speed leads to firearm arrest
DENNIS
- Speeding led to a man being arrested for possessing an unlicensed firearm Sunday morning. Police say about 6:40 AM Patrolman David Tinelli, while conducting radar traffic enforcement on Route 134 in South Dennis observed a 1994 Lexus ES300 sedan traveling at a high rate of speed towards Route 6. Ptl. Tinelli attempted to stop the vehicle and as he did he observed the driver begin reaching into various parts of the vehicle.
The vehicle eventually stopped (approximately ¾ mile from the violation) and the operator, identified as 32-year old Elias White of Falmouth, was removed from the vehicle and searched. During the search Ptl. Tinelli found five (5) .12 gauge shotgun shells in Mr. White's pants pockets and an additional one in the rear seat of the vehicle.
Investigation also revealed that Mr. White had an outstanding arrest warrant, issued by the Barnstable District Court charging him with several motor vehicle violations as well as a Restraining Order barring him from possessing ammunition and firearms.
Mr. White was placed under arrest and a search of the vehicle revealed a loaded .12 gauge shotgun in the trunk. Mr. White was held without bail and is faces charges of Illegal Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, Violation of a Restraining Order, Operating a Vehicle under the Influence of Alcohol and Speeding. Mr. White will be arraigned in Orleans District Court on Monday morning July 16, 2007.


Double fatal crash in Falmouth

Vehicles involved in a double fatal crash in Falmouth lie in an impound yard. AAP

FALMOUTH - There was a horrible crash in Falmouth about 9:30 PM Saturday evening. Authorities were called to Nathan Ellis Highway (Route 151) and Sandwich Road. A total of six vehicles collided. Falmouth Police tell CWN witnesses reported a green Toyota 4Runner was traveling at a high rate of speed when it was struck by a Saab convertible. The impact caused the 4Runner to crash into a Dodge Ram pickup, a Volvo station wagon and a Mazda MX3. Debris from the collision also struck a Nissan Xterra. The operator of the Dodge Ram Pickup 48-year old Edward Kipp of RI was pronounced dead at the scene. The 4Runner wound up on its side ejecting both occupants. They were both flown to Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center in Boston where one of them later succumbed to his injuries. Officials have not released their names pending notification of next of kin. About seven other less seriously injured were also taken to Falmouth Hospital. The large number of injuries prompted a mass casualty incident (MCI) declaration bringing several additional ambulances to the scene. The scene was closed down for much of the night while Falmouth Police assisted by a Mass State Police Crash Team reconstructed the crash as part of their investigation. Published reports say the Toyota 4Runner was apparently trespassing moments earlier at the Otis base and stopped at a security gate. Guards called state police who have enforcement power there. When the state cruiser arrived the 4Runner reportedly sped off. Police emphatically say they were not pursing the vehicle and say the trooper came upon the crash while checking the area for the vehicle. The Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office is now involved in the investigation. Stay with CWN for continuing coverage of this crash.

Motorcyclist injured in crash

HYANNIS - A motorcycle operator suffered non-life threatening injuries when his bike collided with a pickup truck Monday afternoon. The impact caused a small fire on the bike. The crash happened about 5:30 PM by the Honda dealership on the Yarmouth Road section of Willow Street near the Yarmouth town line. The crash is under investigation by Barnstable Police.


Two car crash in Dennis

DENNIS - A two-car collision at Old Chatham Road and Route 134 at approximately 9 am closed the southbound lane of Route 134 this morning for about 1/2 hour.
The severity of injuries was not immediately known.
Dennis Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Dramatic Route 6 crash in Yarmouth


A pickup truck flew off the eastbound exit 8 ramp in Yarmouth



YARMOUTH - Looking at the above scene officials say it's lucky no one was killed.
State Police say a vehicle came off Route 6 eastbound at exit 8 Monday afternoon too fast and crashed off the ramp into the woods.
Rescuers had a diffcult time extricating the two people in the truck. First they had to bring in piles of wood known as cribbing to stabilize the truck.
After that they had to clear several trees to reach the occupants.
Both suffered non-life threatening injuries.
State Police are investigating.
No word if any charges will be filed.

Teen Medflighted with serious burns

FALMOUTH - A 13-year old boy suffered serious burns in an incident in Falmouth just after 2 PM Tuesday. Three boys were apparently burning construction debris when one of them threw a paint can into the fire causing an explosion burning the victim. He was rushed to Falmouth Hospital and airlifted to the Shirners Burn Center at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Man arrested for threats to kill



YARMOUTH - Yarmouth Police arrested a local man Monday after they received a complaint he allegedly threatened to kill a woman and her daughter. Police tell CWN, Patrol Officer Cheryl Nugent Gomsey met with the citizen who further advised that the threats were recorded on an answering machine. The threats reportedly involved a failed business venture and specifically mentioned obtaining a gun and shooting the citizen and child.
Patrol Officer Nugent Gomsey listened to the tape recorded threats and subsequently obtained a warrant from a Barnstable Court Clerk Magistrate for the arrest of the suspect. At approximately 8:00 PM, Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Kevin Antonovitch and Bradley Donahue and K9 Patrol Officer Peter McClelland and his dog Kobi assisted Patrol Officer Nugent Gomsey in serving the arrest warrant at the suspect's home in West Yarmouth. 47-year old James D. Robertson was placed under arrest on two counts of threatening to commit murder and was transported to the Barnstable District Court Tuesday morning for arraignment and evaluation. Fleeing man caught and arrested on warrant charges



YARMOUTH - Yarmouth Police get their man-eventually. They tell us last Friday at about 2:00 PM the mother of a West Yarmouth man came to Yarmouth Police Headquarters to report that her son, who was wanted on an outstanding default warrant, was at her residence and that she was concerned for her safety.
Yarmouth Police Officers subsequently went to the residence but could not locate 26-year old Sean K. Garcia inside the residence. A few minutes later-police officers spotted Garcia hiding behind a nearby residence but he ran off into a heavily wooded area adjacent to Swan Pond in West Yarmouth. Despite a search by members of the Yarmouth Police Department with assistance from the Yarmouth Department of Natural Resources and a Yarmouth Police K9 Unit-the suspect was not located.
Today (Tuesday) at about 10:00 AM, Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Christopher Kent, Richard Fichter, Christopher Van Ness and Patrol Sergeant Michael Bryant made a police initiated follow-up visit to the same residence and, after receiving consent from a parent, searched the home and located Garcia in the basement. He was transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and then transferred to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment. Mugshot furnished by YPD.

Dangerous intersection in Harwich claims another car






Harwich - The dangerous intersection at Chatham Road and Lovers Lane a few yards from Route 39 delivered another crash today at 8:45AM.
An elderly female driver who did not come to a complete STOP hit the blue sedan in the photos.
Harwich police and rescue personnel give aid to the victim.
The 83 year old driver was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with unknown injuries.
The woman in the blue sedan was uninjured, just shaken up.

Police shoot pitbull during early morning drug raid
HYANNIS - Barnstable Police say they were forced to shoot a pitbull when it lunged at them while they were executing a no-knock search warrant early Wednesday. Barnstable and Yarmouth Police went to 245A Mitchell's Way about 6 AM Wednesday morning. 38-year old Suzanne Ireland, 17-year old Sean Ireland (relationship unclear) and a 14-year old juvenile were arrested on a battery of drug charges. Three juvenile kids at the residence were taken into D.S.S. custody. The condition of the home was reportedly so bad officials had to condemn it. Further details were not immediately available.

Man injured in reported home invasion
DENNIS - A man was found with facial injuries after an apparent home invasion early Wednesday morning in Dennis. Police say they responded about 3 AM to a call from a (absentee-landlord) home owner reporting that they had just arrived at their rental property and discovered the 23 year old male tenant, inside the residence, dazed and bleeding from non-life threatening facial injuries.
The tenant reportedly informed the landlord that two male subjects had pushed their way into the residence (approximately 20 minutes prior) and assaulted him with an unknown object. At this time the landlord phoned police.
As a result of the investigation Dennis Police are seeking two (unknown) white males, both appearing to be in their 20's. Both individuals are about 6 feet in height and slender-medium builds. One of the suspects was armed with a field hockey stick.
The victim informed police that he was home alone, heard a knock at the rear door of the residence and upon opening the door he was struck with an unknown object by one of the individuals. He was then made to lie face down in the kitchen area of the residence while one of the individuals stood guard over him, while the other suspect searched the residence.
The suspects left with an undetermined amount of cash from the victim's wallet and fled in an unknown direction from the rear of the residence. Police are also seeking information about a newer model dark colored small - mid-sized sedan which was seen parked in the vicinity at the time of the robbery.
The victim was treated at the scene by Dennis Fire/Rescue for facial injuries however he refused further medical treatment. Anyone with information is asked to call the Dennis Police Department at 508-394-1315.

Missing kayaker's body found today in Marstons Mill pond
Suicide now considered in man missing a week





Reporter Frank Paparo tells CWN that a body floated to the surface early today in Middle Pond, Marstons Mills. See the previous report here.
The missing man's body was found in Middle Pond opposite the town landing but near the connection to Mystic Lake.
A Barnstable police officer doing a perimeter search around 7:30 am today made the discovery.
A note left elsewhere leads investigators to consider the possibility it was suicide.
Early this morning a Barnstable Police Department boat was out on the lake that was searched for a week and found the body believed to be that of the missing kayaker floating.
Barnstable Police Department, State Police Department and divers from the COMM Fire Department went out and brought the body to shore to be photographed by the State Police Department crime unit and then was placed into a van to be taken to the ME for further tests.

A drug bust led to a pit bull being shot, and a house being condemned (inset) on Mitchell's Way.



Mother, sons arrested, house condemned

HYANNIS - Barnstable Police say they were forced to shoot a pit bull when it lunged at them while they were executing a no-knock search warrant early Wednesday. Barnstable and Yarmouth Police went to 245A Mitchell's Way about 6 AM Wednesday morning.
38-year old Suzanne Ireland, her sons 17-year old Sean Ireland, and his 14-year old brother were arrested on a battery of drug charges as was Sean's girlfriend 18-year old Carly Schofield. The 14-year-old, who was found with a cellophane bag with a Vicodin and four Percocet pills, also said his mother gave him the medication, according to police reports.
Sgt. Sweeney of the Barnstable Police said conditions inside were abhorrent, with a maggot-infested hamburger sitting in a pan on the stove and a long, sticky fly strip clogged with so many insects that none of the tape was visible. The home, strewn with garbage, also contained live-feed video cameras trained on the driveway according to Sweeney.
Local attorney Frederick Mycock, reportedly the landlord, has a sign with his phone number on the side of the house.

Teen fatally shot in Hyannis


Barnstable and State Police detectives at the scene of a deadly shooting in Hyannis.




Teen dies from gun shot in troubled Hyannis neighborhood


HYANNIS - An 18-year old was shot and killed in an apparent drive by shooting in Hyannis late Wednesday evening.
Authorities rushed to 36 General Patton Drive about 11:15 PM after a report of shots fired, and found the victim shot in the chest.
Rescuers rushed the victim, identified by the DA's office as Jacques Sellers, to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to a press release from Barnstable County District Attorney Michael O’Keefe, Jacques Sellers was shot while seated in a house at 36 General Patton Drive. O'Keefe said the shots appeared to have come from outside.



Police are reportedly looking for 2 black males wearing "hoodies" seen leaving the area.
An army of Barnstable and State Police detectives have been on scene all night and into the morning looking for clues and the gun used to commit the crime.
A Hyannis fire engine helped light up the scene overnight. Police were seen breaking into one of the houses searched as other PD units stood by.

Armed robber caught in Hyannis
HYANNIS - An armed robber was caught shortly after pulling the alleged heist. It happened in the area of Lewis Street in Hyannis about 10 PM. Barnstable Police spokesman Sgt. Sean Sweeney said Jeffrey Ryder, 18, of Marstons Mills hit an employee of The Finish Line with a gun as he was attempting to make a night deposit at the Citizens Bank at the airport rotary in Hyannis.
Ryder allegedly grabbed the bag containing the store’s night receipts and ran awat toward Bearse Road and then Lewis Road. The Finish Line employee ran after the robber and caught him at the Lewis Road intersection where the two fought each other until Police arrived and arrested Ryder for armed robbery.

Smoky fire forces family out of home
HYANNIS - A family was temporarily forced out of their Franklin Avenue home when a dryer caught fire about 6:30 Thursday morning. The fire was contained to the dryer and firefighters removed it and ventilated the smoke. No one was injured.

Driver arrested after wrong way drive down Mid-Cape Highway
BARNSTABLE - A man driving a mini bus was arrested after reportedly driving the wrong way down Route 6. About 3 AM Thursday morning, a cellphone caller reportedly told State Police the B-Bus style vehicle exited the weigh station on the eastbound side between Exits 4 and 5 going westbound. According to the witness the vehicle crossed the median onto the correct side of the highway but struck a guard rail while doing so.
A state trooper caught up to and stopped the vehicle just before the Sagamore Bridge and arrested the operator David Lunedei and charged him with operating under the influence of alcohol, operating recklessly to endanger, one way violation, and marked lanes violation. According to reports the mini bus was registered to the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority. Further details were not immediately available.

Harwich officer shaken up in cruiser crash
HARWICH - A Harwich Police officer was shaken up but escaped serious injury after his cruiser crashed. The officer who was not identifield was reportedly responding to backup a fellow officer just after 1:30 AM when he apparently skidded on a wet Route 28 and crashed into some bushes by the Weatherdeck Restaurant. The crash is under investigation by the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Accident Reconstruction Team.

Plane makes emergency landing at Hyannis airport
HYANNIS - A small plane made an emergency landing at Barnstable Municipal Airport around 9 PM, Wednesday. The Cape Air Cessna 402 was on a flight from Boston to Hyannis when the pilot received an indication that the landing gear might not be locked. He radioed for emergency crews to standby. The gear apparently did deploy and the plane landed safely with no injuries to the 6 passengers. Passengers and luggage were removed from the plane after it touched down and the plane was towed to a hangar.

Two arrested after vicious fight in Yarmouth




YARMOUTH - Two men are arrested after a fight where one man was attacked with a large wrench. Yarmouth Police tell CWN about 7:40 Friday morning they responded to the parking lot area of the Grand Union Supermarket on Station Avenue regarding a fight involving people armed with weapons including knives and a baseball bat.
Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers David Schneeweis-Paul Mellett-Michael Kramer-Mark Noone-Christopher Marino-and Patrol Sergeant Thomas Hennessey-with back up support from Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Lawrence Garbacik and Trooper Michael Burgess-converged on the scene and encountered four subjects, three men and a women.
All subjects were secured and the on-scene investigation indicated that all of the subjects involved began arguing at the nearby Habit Management clinic on Forsythe Avenue over a former dating relationship. The argument continued from the clinic to the adjacent Dunkin Donuts and finally to the front parking area of the CVS pharmacy.
In the pharmacy parking lot-two men allegedly attacked the third by repeatedly striking him in the head with a ¾ inch steel "breaker bar" socket wrench and repeatedly kicking and dragging him. The victim was treated by members of the Yarmouth Fire Department and transported to Cape Cod Hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries.
The assailants were identified as 31-year old Jeremy K. Eardley of Dennis (left) and 31-year old Shaun P. Stout (right) and placed under arrest. Eardley was charged with assauly and battery with a dangerous weapon (steel wrench), and assauly and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot). Stout was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) and accessory after the fact. They were transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and subsequently to Barnstable District Court for arraignment.




Drivers escape serious injury in double rollover
DENNIS - State Police are investigating an early morning crash on Route 6. The crash shortly before 4:30 AM Friday happened on the eastbound side past exit 9 where the "alley" section of highway starts. Two vehicles collided and rolled on their sides in the woods. One person was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. No word if any citations will be issued.

Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash
BARNSTABLE - A motorcycle operator was seriously injured when his bike crashed in Barnstable. The crash happened shortly before 9 PM on Main Street (Route 6A). The victim was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital with what were believed to be serious but non-life threatening. Barnstable Police are investigating the crash.

Apparent near-drowning turns out to be a seizure
13 year old girl is rescued Friday afternnon

Harwich-Dennis line - The original call was for a drowning victim on the beach at Belmont Rd. and Chase Ave.
However when paramedics from both towns arrived it turned out to be a 13 year old girl who had a seizure.
She was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
In these photos you see rescue personnel working on her at the beach , then they carry her to a waiting ambulance.

Rescuers work on a man after his motorcycle collided with an SUV in Provincetown.





PROVINCETOWN - A man was injured when his motorcycle collided with a Toyota Highlander in Provincetown.
The crash happened Saturday afternoon about 3:30 PM at the intersection of Bradford Street and Conwell Street.
The man was wearing a helmet which likely prevented serious injury. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital.
Provincetown Police are investigating the crash.

"BOLO" today for stolen SUV - Found wrecked in Centerville



Above the wrecked SUV is photographed by police. Above right it is on a flatbed


There was a "Be On The Lookout for" (BOLO) this morning of a stolen SUV from Dennis put out by County Sheriff's Department.



At 8:30 this am the Barnstable PD and Centerville/Osterville/Marstons Mills (COMM) Fire Department got a 911 call of a car crash on Shooting Flying Hill Rd in Centerville.
The crash had taken out about 200 feet of railing just near the beach at Lake Wequaquet before coming to rest and stalling on the shoulder and destroying the right side of the Honda Pilot SUV.
The driver, a 15 or 16 year old who stole it from Dennis, escaped on foot before Barnstable Police and COMM rescue arrived .
Nstar was also called and and the road was blocked for 45 minutes in one lane headed to Route 132 and until the county investigation officer came to take photos and dust for prints.

Vehicle plunges into water at Sandwich camp
SANDWICH - A vehicle wound up in a pond in Sandwich late Saturday night. The driver had escaped the vehicle before rescuers arrived at Camp Burgess off Stowe Road. Sandwich Police are investigating. Further details were not immediately available.

12 year-old hit on scooter in Harwich



HARWICH - A 12 year-old boy riding his scooter apparently did not look when he came out of a driveway and was accidentally struck by a woman driver on Deep Hole Road at 10:45 AM today. Below the boy is comforted by Deputy Fire Chief Norman Clarke, Jr. and paramedic Shawn Piche. Another vehicle stolen and recovered in Barnstable


Two women look on in angst after their Jeep was recovered but significantly banged up

CENTERVILLE - About 3 PM Sunday Barnstable PD got a call that a hiker walking under the power lines across the street from 206 Nye Road turned into the woods and about 3/4 of a mile in found a brand new SUV belonging to a female who just moved from Carmel, Ca. The woman and her friend had been kayaking at Michas Pond when in Centerville with the doors to the Jeep Liberty locked but keys left in car when someone apparently broke in and stole the Jeep. They took it for a joy ride and drove it into the power lines down, narrow dirt trails over fallen branches.



The fenders were damaged on both sides of the car and the bumpers had been knocked off before they ditched the Jeep deep in the woods. Bucklers towing came with a flatbed and a front end loader with power saws to make way for the flatbed. The operation to extricate the vehicle took over 3 hours. Barnstable Police and a county investigation officer photoed, and dusted the vehicle for prints. The suspect(s) are still at large as of press time. Another accident on Shoot Flying Hill, this one with four vehicles.

CENTERVILLE - Above are two of the four cars cars invovled in a accident with 2 injuries at Shoot Flying Hill Road and Old Stage Road at 2:15pm today sent two people to Cape Cod Hospital by COMM FD. Traffic was detoured both lanes of Old Stage for 45 minutes. The crash was one of several that stalled already heavy "day tripper" traffic.

Single car acident on same road four hours later



HARWICH - At 8pm Tuesday a VW Jetta heading south just past Pleasant Bay Road apparently lost control and ended up against a telephone pole in the opposite lane heading north. The single car accident drew a fast and full press response from both Police and Fire Departments, but luckily for the young driver. there were no injuries. Photos by Pat Brooks






Driver charged after colliding with police cruiser
FALMOUTH - An Osterville man was charged after his vehicle collided with a police cruiser in Falmouth. The Times reports reports the crash happened late Saturday night on East Falmouth Highway. 20-year old John O'Shea was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, willfully obstructing an emergency vehicle, and minor transporting alcohol. Police also alleged he may have been distracted by talking on his cell phone at the time of the crash. The cruiser had lights and siren on though its unclear what the emergency was. Officer Nathaniel Aronson was treated and released at Falmouth Hospital.

Falmouth man charged with child endangerment
FALMOUTH - A local man was charged after allegedly taking a 2 year old boy for a ride on his motorcycle while neither were wearing helmets. 23-year old Tawan Matthews was charged with operating revoked, reckless endangerment of a child not wearing a helmet and operating on a sidewalk after police spotted Matthews on Saturday on East Falmouth Highway. The child apparently belonged to Matthews' girlfriend and was released to her custody.

HARWICH - Two people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital after a crash at Route 39 and Bucks Pond Road about 3 PM. It appeared victims in this Ford Taurus struck the windshield on impact. Rescuers can be seen tending to one person on the ground as another is wheeled to an ambulance. The severity of the injuries was not immediately known. Harwich Police are investigating.

Driver arrested for 3rd OUI after crash in Yarmouth



YARMOUTH
- As Yarmouth Police were dealing with the shoplifting and robbery calls (above) they also had to respond to a motor vehicle crash where the driver was accused of being drunk. Police say just after 10 PM both the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to a motor vehicle crash into the woods at the intersection of Weir Road and Starbuck Lane in Yarmouthport.
Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers David S. Dickey and Cheryl Nugent Gomsey responded to the scene and located the operator standing outside his crashed vehicle refusing any medical treatment.
While speaking with the operator regarding the crash-Patrol Officer Dickey was told that the crash occurred because his slippers got caught between the gas and brake pedal causing the operator to lose control. During the on-scene interview-Patrol Officer Dickey reportedly detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on the operator's breath and signs of intoxication. Patrol Officer Dickey administered a series of standardized field sobriety tests and subsequently placed the operator 42-year old John E. Giannelli of Harwich under arrest for drunken driving and failing to stay in marked lanes.
Giannelli was transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court today. Mugshot furnished by YPD.

Man about to be arraigned on 8th OUI flees court-caught at home
FALMOUTH - A man about to be arraigned on his 8th operating under the influence of alcohol fled Falmouth District Court Tuesday. The Times reports 50-year old John Bazillo of Sandwich was arrested early Tuesday in Mashpee after a chase through Sandwich and that town. Witnesses reported Bazillo screamed at a woman in a van outside the court who then drove him away. He failed to appear when his case was read and a warrant was issued. Sandwich Police caught Bazillo hiding in his cellar about 5:30 Wednesday morning. He was taken to Falmouth Hospital for treatment after suffering a seizure.

Teen's death not suspicious
FALMOUTH - The Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office says the death of a teenager in Falmouth over the weekend does not appear suspicious. Officials are awaiting toxicology results on 18-year old Christopher Sweeney of Norwell. He was discovered dead in an East Falmouth home. Further details were not immediately available.

Robbery, OUI crash, shoplifting within minutes keep Yarmouth busy

Yarmouth motel robbed - UPDATE





YARMOUTH - Police are looking for the man who reportedly robbed the Town N' Country Motor Lodge on Route 28 in Yarmouth around 10 PM on Tuesday. Yarmouth Police Tell CWN Patrol Officers Kevin L. Antonovitch and Christopher R. Marino arrived at the scene and confirmed that an armed robbery had just occurred and that the suspect had fled. After establishing a secure crime scene-additional Yarmouth Police Officer converged on the area and established an outer perimeter and conducted saturation patrols.
The on-scene investigation determined that an unknown white male had entered the front office area-brandished a handgun-and demanded cash. The suspect obtained a small amount of cash-ran southbound across Route 28-and into a silver 4 door sedan. The suspect vehicle was last seen westbound on Route 28.

Barnstable County Sheriff's Department Crime Scene Investigators John Szucs and Timothy Wallace were called to the scene and provided crime scene analysis and evidence collection. Anyone with information about this unsolved violent crime is urged to contact Yarmouth Police Detective Eric H. Nuss at 508-775-0445 extension 132.

White Male, 5 foot 6 to 5 foot 8, stocky build with a round face and blond hair.

Shoplifter nabbed in Yarmouth



YARMOUTH - Minutes before the motel robbery (above) a woman was arrested for shoplifting. Police report about 9:40 PM they responded to the Pizazz gift store on Long Pond Drive in South Yarmouth regarding an alleged shoplifter.
Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Kevin P. McIsaac arrived at the store and located the suspect sitting in her blue Ford Expedition in the rear parking lot. Store employees advised Patrol Officer McIsaac that they had observed the suspect steal a dress and a stuffed animal. The suspect 18-year old Amy D. Beltzer of West Yarmouth was placed under arrest on charges of shoplifting and transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters. She was scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court today.
An inventory of the vehicle revealed a large quantity of brand new items with store tags still on them. Many of the items were listed as coming from two other gift stores in West Yarmouth-Wings and Mrs. Mitchell's. Several hundred dollars worth of items were confiscated and the investigation is ongoing.

Man seriously injured at House of Correction
BOURNE - A man was seriously injured at the House of Correction at the Otis base Wednesday evening. An inmate apparently slashed himself with a disposable razor. The victim was taken to Falmouth Hospital and reportedly later flown to Boston Medical Center. We'll bring you further details as we get them from the Sheriff's department.

Rep. Cleon Turner proposes renaming Rt 6 interchange for injured trooper

YARMOUTH - Turner suggested naming the interchange off Exit 7 on the westbound side of Route 6 the "State Trooper Ellen Engelhardt Interchange." "From all I'm told, she did a great job there, and this seems a fitting tribute," Turner said. "There aren't a lot of interchanges named after people. Vehicles wind up in water in Mashpee, Chatham
CHATHAM - New overnight: it was apparently not a good night to launch boats. Vehicles wound up in the water in both Mashpee and Chatham. The Mashpee incident happened around 2 AM. The Chatham incident happened about 4:45 AM at Ryder's Cove. No one was injured in either incident. Further details were not immediately available.

Two injured in motorcycle crash
BOURNE - Two people were injured when their motorcycle crashed in Bourne about 8 PM Wednesday. It happened by the Scusset Beach Market on Meetinghouse Road. The two suffered what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. Bourne Police are investigating.


Man pleads guilty to MV homicide charges



SANDWICH - 50-year old Christopher Parker pleaded guilty to motor vehicle homicide charges in Barnstable District Court Wednesday. He was charged with causing the crash that killed 63-year old Diane Carhart of Forestdale on Route 130 last March 5th (click to read original story). Prosecutors said Parker was adjusting his radio when his Honda slammed into the back of Carhart's Geo Tracker. The impact sent the Tracker crashing into an NStar pickup truck. Parker was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail. 6 months of that sentence will be suspended and he will be on two years probation. Parker must also serve 10 days for operating with a suspended license.

CVS employees sickened in Orleans
ORLEANS - Three CVS employees were over come by fumes in the store on Route 6A Wednesday. Officials believe roofers were working with tar when the fumes were sucked in by the building's ventilation system. One employee was taken to CCH another treated at the scene. As a precaution the store was closed for the day.

Woman found dead in Yarmouth motel
YARMOUTH - A woman was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the Yankee Village Motel around 9:30 AM Tuesday morning. The woman is identified as 31-year old Daniella Falzone of Hyannis. Small crash causes huge traffic back-up on Mid-Cape at noon today


Our intrepid photographer crept through the woods to bring you this photo of a lone State Trooper directing rescue vehicles to this Route 6 crash while traffic was held up just after noon today.

Grease spill makes roads slick in Orleans
ORLEANS
- A grease slick coated several roads in Orleans Thursday morning. Officials believe a truck that had just made a pickup at a local restaurant leaked the grease on parts of Route 6A, Old Colony Way and West Road. Motorists slid around like it was an icy winter day but incredibly there were no crashes. Firefighters spread out "speedy dry" material to absorb the grease up.

EASTHAM - Police are investigating a three vehicle crash at the Eastham, Orleans rotary shortly before 7:30 PM. One person was reportedly taken to CCH with non-life threatening injuries. Outer Cape traffic was slowed until the wreckage was cleared.

7 injured in Sandwich crash

SANDWICH - 7 people were injured late Thursday afternoon in an apparent rear end colliso at Quaker Meetinghouse Road and Cotuit Road in Sandwich.
None of the injuries appear serious but traffic was backed up in the area.

Crash snarls traffic in Hyannis Friday morning


A multi-vehicle crash snarled traffic on one of Hyannis' busiest roads around 11am today.



HYANNIS - A three car crash occurred on Yarmouth Road in Hyannis today in front of the John Deere Store. Four individuals were checked by the Hyannis Fire Department, none of the four were transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
The crash caused a major traffic issue around 11am this morning on this heavily traveled road.

Juvenile arrested in SUV theft



BARNSTABLE - Police arrested a 15-year old Juvenile being sought for last Sunday's SUV theft in Dennis. An officer apparently spotted the suspect on Fox Hollow Road in Centerville about 8:45 AM.
Because of his age he was not be identified. He allegedly stole the SUV and crashed it near Lake Wequaquet causing extensive damage.
The suspect will be arraigned in Juvenile Court at a later date.

Man arrested for allegedly pulling gun at CVS


Police escort a man accused of showing a gun at the CVS in Harwich to a cruiser



HARWICH - A man picking up a few prescriptions at the CVS on Rt. 137 was arrested for allegedly showing a handgun.
It was reported by Pharmacy employees that a man had become upset over a problem with his prescriptions and became threatening towards the pharmacy technician at the drive up pharmacy window and subsequently brandished a handgun in a threatening manner towards the employee. A witness told CWN he stated "I use this when I get angry"
Officers Jon Mitchell, Rob Horgan and Paul Ulrich of the Harwich Police Department were able to locate the suspect and his vehicle in the parking lot to the rear of CVS. Officer’s initiated a felony stop on the vehicle and took the suspect into custody. A loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the vehicle along with numerous knives.
The suspect was identified as: 46-year old Shaun Ellis of Sagamore, He was placed under arrest and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Firearm) and Illegally Carrying a Dangerous Weapon (Dirk Knife). Mr Ellis was transported to the Harwich Police Department where he was booked.

Dangerous intersection scene of another crash

Two SUVs collided at Route 149/Service Road where officials say a signal light is needed.

WEST BARNSTABLE - A notorious intersection is the scene of another crash.
A Jeep Cherokee and a Honda SUV collided at the Route 149/Service Road intersection in West Barnstable about 1 PM.
There were no injuries but both vehicles were heavily damaged.
The impact caused the Honda to run down a stop sign at the intersection where Route 149, Service Road and the eastbound exit traffic from Route 6 all merge.



Officials have been pleading with the state to put a traffic light at the troublesome intersection. The crash backed up traffic for a time. Barnstable Police are investigating this latest crash.

One injured in Harwich crash


A two vehicle collision at Route 28 and Chase Road in Harwich sent one person to Cape Cod Hospital



HARWICH - A two car collision about 5:30PM today sent one man to Cape Cod Hospital with unknown injuries. The crash happened at Route 28 and Chase Road when 22-year old Bryan Wade of Harwich operating this Geo Prizm collided with a Mazda 3 operated by 50-year old Maureen Shea of NY. At right Harwich firefighter paramedics give aid to the victim of the crash. Wade was taken to CCH and also cited for failing to use care in stopping and failing to wear a seat belt. Two injured, one seriously in Wellfleet motorcycle crash
WELLFLEET - Two people were injured, one seriously when their motorcycle crashed in Wellfleet Sunday morning. The crash happened on Coles Neck Road near the town landfill. Because Wellfleet ambulances were tied up on other calls crews from Truro and Lower Cape Ambulance transported the victims to Cape Cod Hospital. The crash is under investigation by Wellfleet Police.


Man critically injured in fall at Orleans motel
ORLEANS - A man was critically injured after reportedly falling off a balcony at the Governor Prence Motor Inn on Route 6A in Orleans about 9 PM Saturday evening. Reports say the man struck a vehicle below suffering a serious head injury. He was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital. Further details were not immediately available.

No injuries in Route 6 rollover
SANDWICH - No injuries were reported after a vehicle rolled on its roof on Route 6. It happened about 6:15 PM Saturday on the eastbound side about a mile before exit 2 (Route 130). Traffic was slowed until the wreckage was cleared. The crash is under investigation by State Police.

SOUTH DENNIS - An elderly female may have suffered a medical condition before apparently losing control of her car and striking a utility pole on Mayfair Road in South Dennis at approximately 4 PM this afternoon across from Follins Pond Road. A witness following the west-bound vehicle reported that it suddenly began to weave back and forth and then headed directly into the pole. Police closed off that section of Mayfair because the pole was severely damaged by the impact and NStar had to replace it. Scenic Highway crash stalls traffic
BOURNE - A two vehicle crash on the Scenic Highway portion of Route 6 along the canal about 3:30 PM caused heavy delays. The crash near the Bourne Scenic Park caused one of the vehicles to roll over. Police say a Nissan entering the highway apparently drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with a Honda which rolled over. The driver of the Honda 27-year old Nathan Sylvester of Weymouth freed himself but his passenger had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life. The Nissan driver 16-year old Nisha Riley of Bourne was cited for operating to endanger and failing to stay in marked lanes. All three victims were taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Suspicious device causes evacuation in Sandwich

A

family waits outside their Greenville Drive home in Sandwich while the bomb squad checks a device in rear.



SANDWICH - Tense moments in a Sandwich neighborhood after a suspicious device is found. Children playing made the discovery behind 55 Greenville Drive.
Sandwich Police and Fire responded and as a precaution evacuated a couple of homes in the immediate area. Sandwich Police told CWN it appeared to be a very old projectile possibly from the nearby base. A Mass State Police Bomb Squad technician arrived and determined the device was "safe" and removed it.

Breaking news: Structure fire in Dennis


Flames pour from a house on Olivia Walker Road in South Dennis.



SOUTH DENNIS – The Dennis Fire Department responded to a call at 3:23 PM this afternoon alerting them to a structure fire at 25 Olivia Walker Road in South Dennis.
When the first crews arrived flames were jetting out of the rear of the house. Crews were able to knock down the fire in a matter of minutes. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze in this summer rental is not known at this time. Mutual aid from Harwich and Yarmouth covered the Dennis station.

Breaking news: Man electrocuted in Bourne
BOURNE - A man was rushed to Falmouth Hospital after apparently being electrocuted. Reports say the jolt caused the man to fall about 2 stories around 3:30 PM. Rescuers at 24 Portside Drive were unable to get a medevac so the victim was taken to Falmouth Hospital in serious condition. Further details were not immediately available.

Breaking news: Emergency landing at Otis base
OTIS ANG BASE - A small Cessna aircraft made an emergency landing at the Otis base around 4:15 PM. The pilot apparently reported possible difficulty with the plane. It did land without injuries or damage. Further details were not immediately available.

Birds nest apparent cause of power outage
YARMOUTH - A power outage that affected parts of Yarmouth, Hyannis and Dennis was apparently caused when a birds nest caused a short circuit in the wires. NStar crews were able to quickly restore the power

HYANNIS - Two people were injured in a three vehicle crash in Hyannis Wednesday afternoon. It happened around 1:45 PM on West Main Street at Woodland Avenue near Country Gardens. The van and dark colored sedan appeared to have collided head on. A third vehicle could not avoid the crash and was slightly damaged. The injured were evaluated by Hyannis rescue and a Cape Cod Ambulance that happened to be passing by. They were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Luxury car catches fire in Yarmouth driveway


A fire started in the engine compartment of a Lincoln Town Car in Yarmouth.

YARMOUTH - A car fire was reported today in Yarmouth about mid afternoon.
On arrival on Deb's Hill Road firefighters found this Lincoln Town Car in the driveway with a fire under the hood.
The vehicle was right next to a second Lincoln Town Car.
The fire was knocked down quickly with no injuries but the vehicle was a total loss.


Man wanted on 8 warrants caught on traffic stop


YARMOUTH - Yarmouth Police arrested a man with eight outstanding warrants. Patrol Officer Richard Fichter was on routine patrol when he spotted a known wanted person operating a 2005 Nissan Altima westbound on Route 28 in West Yarmouth. Patrol Officer Fichter with assistance from Yarmouth Police Patrol Sergeant Michael Bryant and the Barnstable Police Department, stopped the vehicle on Route 28 in Hyannis.
The operator stated that he did not have any license or identification and gave a false name. A check of his wallet confirmed his true identity and the existence of 8 outstanding default warrants.
The suspect 22-year old Robert D. Foley of Harwich was placed in custody and transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters. After the completion of the booking process, he was transferred to the Barnstable District Court. Mug shot furnished by YPD.

Truro Police to launch bicycle patrol
TRURO - Starting today the Truro Police Department will be patrolling areas of town on bicycle. Officer James Roach a three year veteran of the force has been assigned to patrol areas of town in an effort to increase the department's visibility and to make motorists aware of the numerous bicyclist and pedestrians that use the roads of Truro. In addition Officer Roach will be doing speed enforcement working with other officers in marked and unmarked police vehicles. The goal of the program is visibility and conformance of traffic laws.

The crash on the eastbound side of Route 6 near exit 10 along the old "suicide alley" stretch came at the height of rush hour and as vacationers were flocking to the Cape for the weekend. Two people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One of them was transported by a Lower Cape Ambulance that came upon the collision while returning from the hospital. State Police are investigating the cause of the crash. The wreckage was reportedly strewn over a large area and tow trucks were needed to remove the vehicles. Residual delays were exepected to persist into the evening for a while in the area.


Driver trapped after vehicle hits tree, rolls over in Falmouth
FALMOUTH - A driver was seriously injured when their vehicle struck a tree and rolled over in Falmouth early Friday morning. The crash happened about 1:35 AM on Carraige Shop Road near Old Barnstable Road. Rescuers had to extricate the driver using the Jaws of Life. The driver was taken to Falmouth Hospital. The crash is under investigation by Falmouth Police.


Subject reportedly barricades himself in Brewster



BREWSTER - Officials in Brewster responded to a 911 call of a person who had reportedly barricaded them self inside the Kings Landing Apartments on State Street off Underpass Road around noon Thursday. The Brewster Police have not released any information but we do know the subject apparently came out on his own and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. Child Medflighted from Bourne after fall
BOURNE - A toddler was reportedly flown to a Boston hospital after a fall in Bourne Saturday afternoon. Also in Bourne officials were working with Onset on a report of a man fallen with a head injury near the town line. He was transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham and rescuers were reportedly trying to get a helicopter for him as well. Further details were not immediately available.

Hyannis crash clogs major artery to Hospital


A two vehicle crash on East Main Street in Hyannis blocked a major access route to CCH.



HYANNIS - Just before noon Saturday already clogged roads got a bit worse with this 2 car crash on East Main Street and Bayview Street.
A Dennis ambulance returning from the hospital assisted, and ultimately transported one patient.
The scene is along a major artery for ambulances coming up Route 28 to get th CCH and traffic was so backed up so bad that Barnstable County dispatch advised any incoming ambulances to seek alternate routes to the hospital. Barnstable Police are investigating the crash.

HARWICH - A three vehicle crash late Friday afternoon on the Harwich/Brewster line caused major delays. The crash on the eastbound side of Route 6 near exit 10 along the old "suicide alley" stretch came at the height of rush hour and as vacationers were flocking to the Cape for the weekend. Two people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One of them was transported by a Lower Cape Ambulance that came upon the collision while returning from the hospital. State Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Police allege 54-year old Patricial Durgin of Orleans was reaching for her cell phone when she apparently failed to notice stopped traffic ahead of her and collided with a car driven by 55-year old Everett Redmond of Brewster. The impact forced Redmond's car into a third vehicle driven by 35-year old Wendy Levandoski of Harwich.Levandoski and and Redmond were taken to CCH. The wreckage was reportedly strewn over a large area and tow trucks were needed to remove the vehicles. Residual delays persisted into the evening for a while in the area.

Police seek pickup for 2 hit & runs



HYANNIS - Cape Police are looking for a pickup truck allegedly involved in not one but two hit and run crashes. About 2 PM today Barnstable PD responded to a call of a hit & run crash at Brooks Pharmacy at West Main Street in Hyannis. The description given was a pickup truck and it reportedly fled from the scene toward the West End Rotary. Twenty minutes later there was another hit and run reported at Lewis Bay Road & Main Street in Hyannis near the hospital. Cape Wide News cameras show the police with the damaged vehicle a small white sports car. No injuries were reported in either incident. Barnstable Police were given a plate number by witnesses. Shoplifter arrested in Hyannis



HYANNIS - The Barnstable PD were called at about 7 PM tonight to Stop & Shop on Independence Drive in Hyannis for a shoplifter who was being chased by security but lost when he ran towards Borders and the woods onto to Independence Drive.
Barnstable Police caught the man within within 10 minutes. He was then positively identified and transported to the police station.

Head-on crash closes Route 28


Despite this scene there were no serious injuries in a head-on crash in Centerville Sunday night.



CENTERVILLE - A head-on crash on Route 28 by Ames Way in Centerville around 9 PM Sunday evening shut down the roadway for about an hour.
Both vehicles were heavily damaged but the three occupants escaped with only minor injuries. Two were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.
The crash is under investigation by Barnstable Police. Further details were not immediately available.

HARWICH - Two crashes Monday afternoon caused major traffic backups and sent several people to the hospital. The first crash (above) happened at Lower County Road and Riverside Drive about 3 PM A Toyota Camry driven by 88-year old Leroy Long of Harwich crashed. Mr. Long was not injured but his wife Dorothy Long was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.

The second crash happened a short time later on Route 137 and Southwest by the Evergreen Cemetery. Two vehicles collided. Police say it appears a vehicle driven by 70-year old Barbara Doty of NY apparently failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle driven by 34-year old Jean Butter of Chatham. 6 people were evaluated at the scene. Butter and two of her children were transported to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. At right a victim is loaded into an ambulance. Below Rescuers triage the scene. Teen driver critical after Falmouth crash
FALMOUTH - A driver was critically injured when his vehicle crashed in Falmouth Monday afternoon. It happened about 12:45 PM in front of 45 Homestead Lane. Rescuers found the driver outside the vehicle when they arrived. The victim reported to be a juvenile was rushed to Falmouth Hospital and then Medflighted to a Boston hospital.

Gun reportedly shown at Nantucket soccer game
NANTUCKET - A fight at a soccer game on Nantucket reportedly resulted in a gun being shown. The Nantucket Mirror & Inquirer reports the fight broke out during the second half of a game at Delta Fields Sunday. No shots were fired and no one was injured. Police reportedly have a suspect in mind and are seeking him. Reports of another person brandishing a knife are unconfirmed.

Taxi rear ended in Barnstable


A Town Taxi was rear ended in Barnstable injuring the driver just before noon.






BARNSTABLE - A Town Taxi was rear ended by a SUV in Barnstable shortly before noon Tuesday.
The crash happened at the interesction of Phinneys Lane and Attucks Road.
The cab driver (right) was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Barnstable Police are investigating the crash which tied up traffic for about 45 minutes.

Police seek hit & run driver
HYANNIS - Barnstable Police are seeking the driver who struck a teen Sunday night and fled the scene. The crash happened on Route 132 by Sam Diegos Restaurant about 11:15 PM. The Times reports 19-year old Eric Summer had just left his job at a nearby pizzeria when he was struck. Reports say another vehicle narrowly missed him before someone stopped to help. Summer had to be transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for treatment of a leg broken in six places and he lost two teeth. He was unable to give a description of the vehicle because he only saw taillights. He told police it was a car and not an SUV or truck. Pair of crashes keep West Barnstable rescuers busy
WEST BARNSTABLE - Two crashes within minutes kept West Barnstable rescues busy late Wednesday night. Just after 11 PM a vehicle rolled over on Route 149 by the golf course. A unit responding to that crash spotted another crash on Osterville/West Barnstable Road just off Route 149. That vehicle had crashed into the woods. Neither driver was seriously injured. Barnstable Police are investigating both crashes.


Stolen restoration van quickly recovered



HYANNIS - About 4 PM today the Whalen Restoration Company was doing cleanup work at 20 Sea Street in Hyannis the scene of a recent fire, when a man reportedly got into one of the Whalen trucks and stole it. Barnstable Police put out an all points bulletin and within minutes a Barnstable Police officer working a detail at the Route 132 construction site spotted the van apparently trying to get to Route 6 to leave the area. The officer pulled it over at the Hyannis Golf Course and arrested the driver identified as 47-year old Brent Hartley of New Bedford. At right Whalen employees arrive to reclaim their truck. Man arrested for 3rd operating under
Suspect was driving car without ignition interlock system as required
FALMOUTH - Falmouth Police arrested a local man early Wednesday morning charging him with operating under the influence of alcohol third offense. Officers reportedly spotted 45-year old Bruce Perry swerve on Route 28 around 1 AM. Police say he failed sobriety tests. The vehicle he was driving was not equipped with an ignition interlock system as required as part of a previous OUI condition. The system requires the driver to undergo a breath test before the vehicle will start. Perry was due to be arraigned on Wednesday in Falmouth District Court.

Driver arrested after wrong way drive
YARMOUTH - State Police arrested a woman after she allegedly drove the wrong way for a distance on the Mid-Cape Highway. Troopers found the woman in the median when they arrived. The woman was reportedly arrested for operating under the influence of drugs and taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Further details were not immediately available.

Police Continue to Investigate Ongoing Copper Theft
YARMOUTH - On
Tuesday, August 7, 2007-the Yarmouth Police Department responded to two new reports of the theft of thousands of dollars worth of copper plumbing and electric wire.
At 6:47 AM-Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Justin Haire responded to the construction site of the new International Fund for Animal Welfare complex on Willow Street in Yarmouthport regarding the overnight theft of copper piping, ball valves, fittings, and wiring.
At 1:51 PM-Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Gordon Gibbons received a report of the theft of four coils of copper wire from the rear of an NStar utility company truck while it was parked on Route 28 in West Yarmouth. The theft is believed to have occurred earlier in the day at approximately 8:15 AM.
List of stolen items:The theft of copper related products has been occurring at various locations for the past several months in Yarmouth as well as other Cape Cod communities. It has also occurred in a variety of locations throughout Massachusetts and New England. Anyone with information about these felony crimes is asked to contact Yarmouth Police Detective Stephen W. Police Investigate Rash of Overnight Motor Vehicle Break-Ins
YARMOUTH - The Yarmouth Police Department has been receiving reports from citizens who have discovered that their motor vehicles had been broken into sometime overnight. Most of the thefts have occurred between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. All of the vehicles broken into had been left unlocked and unsecured. As of this point-The Yarmouth Police Department is investigating 30 reports that involve overnight break-ins from neighborhoods all across our town. The string of incidents has occurred sporadically since the beginning of July.
Taken in the break-ins have been:The Yarmouth Police Department urges all citizens to properly secure their vehicles, park in a well-lit area and to immediately report any suspicious noise, behavior, or activity. If you find that your vehicle has been broken into, do not touch or disturb anything and contact police immediately. This will help with the crime scene evidence collection process. State Police investigate Route 25 crash
BOURNE - Two people were injured in a rollover crash on Route 25 eastbound near the Bourne Bridge. The crash happened shortly before 5 PM. One person had to be extricated from the wreckage. The driver was identified as 35-year old Valter Docarmo of Falmouth and the passenger as Wanderly Hernandez also fo Falmouth. State Police cited Docarmo for operating unlicensed and marked lanes violation. Police say speed may be a factor as well.
