Anyone know how to find out when the next Lowell Police Academy starts? Also, I was curious about what the days consist of there.

The Lowell Police Academy Usually Runs 1 Class Per Year, Last Years 2006 Class Started In June And The Before That One, The 2005 Class Started In August. So It Depends.

There's a lot to like about Lowell... the staff instructor's there are very friendly and we hardly ran at all... enjoy 24 weeks of fun, fun, fun...

I would also recomend giving them a call to find out when they plan to start this year's class.

The last I knew they were planning on a June class this year.

Posted by: GodblessThearmy

I attended the last lowell academy, and the AD said june 5th again for the start date this year. But we all know how things are subject to change.

whenever the start date is... start running now!

Posted by: BPD110

You guys ran? I dont remember doing any running there. I remember a nice laid back 6 Month vacation

Posted by: mpdcam

They will be running another next spring. Exact date is not set in stone yet tho.

We'll see with the pending budget cuts...

CPD is putting together a group of recruits now. Should have a date soon.

Got good running sneakers?? If you end up going there, stock up on bengay and heating pads...10-12 miles is a LOOOOONG run! I think I still have shin splints and I graduated 10 yrs. ago.

Anyone else heard that S.I. Hickman was re-assigned out of the Lowell Academy? Or is this just a rumor?

Posted by: usaf1199a

He was there for the 2006 Class... haven't heard anything else.

Posted by: methlow

He has been moved full time to the warrant apprehension unit. No word on his replacement yet.

I hate to see him go, he is a great cop and a great instructor. But I'll bet if he is gone he will make special appearance once in a while. I am still afraid of that guy. Sir Good Morning Sir.

Good to know, thanks. I hope he does well, I was a big fan of his from my Lowell "Experience".

When embarking on these 10+ mile jaunts, what kind of pace are you running at?

You don't run 10 miles......these guys are all just saying that to scare everybody.

Posted by: BPD110

I'm scared and I already went through it

Posted by: lab276

They obviously don't just chuck you into the 10+ mile runs, rather it's a progression over the academy. The pace depends...if you're up with psycho Tommy, then you're running around a 6 minute mile the whole time. For those who are challeged in the PT area, you might run a 9-10 min mile. Toss in a couple of law enforcement road races during the academy where they can either showboat how great the class is, or punish you with humilliation in front of the rest of the police culture by doing all kinds of push ups and situps when the race is over.
Either way, you'll probably never want to see another pair of running sneakers when it's all said and done!

Verrry true... Another great thing about Lowell is that for our class, they issued us a very nice basketweave, ibuprofen holder for our duty belt. Squared away Sgt. Fleming and the SI's are very thoughtful.

What is the process for getting into the academy and what are the dates you have to have the paper work in the by?
