Anyone know anything about the wilmington auxiliary?

Please post all of your contact requests in the appropriate forum. Which would be "just shooting the breeze"--> subforum "contact requests". I know you are new to this site and probably unaware that their was a separate forum for these questions. Thanks for registering and welcome!

209 I think Mase is asking for info about the WAPD, not necessarily looking for a contact.
Moved to the correct forum for Auxiliary discussions.

I agree with Koz, I saw nothing in that question regarding "contact requests". The guy is just looking for some basic background info.

Anyone work or have worked there and know anything about the department?

Thanks

I know that they hire once a year usually in january, you need to be a resident of Wilmington with a Ltc and Reserve academy training, they do have payed details, and they patrol the normal Aux sites such as city buildings, parks, schools, not a bad gig from what i heard but you need to pay for all your stuff including firearm.

Right from their website

The Wilmington Auxiliary Police was formed in August, 1980 as a volunteer organization, with police training, that could assist the regular police department in emergency situations and provide volunteers for various town and civic group functions.

The Wilmington Auxiliary Police is made up of approximately 15 members, with a Lieutenant as the commanding officer, an Administrative Sergeant and four squads of patrolman, each headed by a Sergeant. Each member has completed the Reserve/Intermittent training program conducted by the Northeast Regional Police Institute and must qualify with a firearm each year.
The town provides a marked cruiser for the volunteers to conduct a School Patrol function in which two officers are required to conduct routine patrols of town owned property from 7:00PM to 11:00PM each evening. Each officer is required to complete a minimum of 8 volunteer hours per month on school patrol.
People interested in becoming a member of the organization should send a letter expressing interest to:

Wilmington Police Department
Michael Begonis
Chief of Police
Adelaide Street
Wilmington Massachusetts 01887

Only Wilmington redsidents will be considered for appointment to the Auxiliary Police. A complete background check, including motor vehicle records will be conducted on each applicant prior to appointment. It is each appointed officer’s responsibility to provide his or her own complete uniform, including a firearm.
