formula for speeding fines

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

Posted by: girlcop21

I can't find my academy notes relating to the formula they taught in order to determine speeding fines... anybody know it off hand? Thanks!

Posted by: copcop

determine how fast they are over the limit and add a zero....20 over= 200
10 over= 100
18 over= 180.......simple

Posted by: girlcop21

that's it? thanks!

Then just add the $50 for the head injury fund....

Posted by: Delta784

Just make it up, no one will know any different.

Posted by: Chree

Don't add $50 to that formula....that includes the $50

fine for up to 10mph over is $50, then add the $50 HIF = $100 minimum fine

So 15 miles over would be $100, plus the $50 HIF.

It just makes it easier to include the HIF in with the fine instead of adding it at the end.

Just go with what Delta said, whatever you write on the cite is the amount that will have to be paid... of course, if it gets appealed the magistrate will adjust it and will think you are a moron

Posted by: copcop

My formula includes the head injury

Posted by: Sniper

I have all the formulas at my place............ You can drop by and copy them down anytime you want.

Posted by: Belker

Hi,
the easiest way to figure out the fines is just add a 0 to the amount of miles over the speed limit. if the are 23 over than it would be $230.00 15 over the speed limit it would be $150.00. this already includes the head injury.

grrrrr baby!

With Construction zones, the best thing is to double the whole fine, then subtract $50, as the surchage is not doubled. So, 60 in 40, $200... constrcution zone, $400-50=350

Posted by: SUOKKO

If you still can't figure it out then just write them a warning and turn in your badge!

Good point, I don't know how many times I've had to cross out the total because I forgot to subtract the extra $50.00.

Are some of you friggin kidding me. It's basic math! Suokko I agree with your post. Turn in their badge, submit your resignations and go work at Mcdonalds. You may just help preserve the professionalism of this job after all.

Surprised you Dudes or shall I say bro's pulled yourselves away from chat long enough to keep me informed on posting etiquette. While I am sure I have your attention, let me ask you this. What would be the accepted time limit be on replying to a post. I was under the assumption that if it still existed on the site, then it's fair game. But you two clowns seem to have the inside track on this topic. So do tell, Dudes

Posted by: Sniper

actually DUDE.............. I could give a fuck less what or where you post. I agree that if the thread still exists you can do whatever the fuck you want DUDE !!!!! Have at it. Bottom line DUDE, is that this poor kid asked a simple question. Some people don't work for departments where they have the time or ability to do Chapter 90 enforcement. Maybe this girl spends her whole shift chasing 911 hangups and medical emergency calls......... We were all new to the job at one point, and I CERTAINLY remember what it was like to ask someone a question and get the "I'm BUBBA, I mean BETTER THAN YOU bullshit...... So. DUDE, if you need me, I'll be in the "chat" as you say.

Well said.... This was not some troll or some fuktard who wanted to bash an officer for issuing them a citation. The post was by a member of the LE community asking fellow members for help and advice. If you have nothing to offer her, then just read and move on, you are not Required to post. Unfortunately, none of us, of course with the exception of you, knows everything that there is to know about this job. In fact, most of us will retire not knowing EVERYTHING that there is to know about this job. That is why we ask questions and we share information amongst the 'LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY'. It is a shame that someone like you, who knows EVERYTHING, is not willing to pass along your wisdom and knowledge to younger, less experienced members of the community. Instead, you'd rather flex your nuts and highlight the fact that you know more than someone else.

Posted by: girlcop21

Ok, I'll bite since it was my question that sparked such an ignorant tirade.

To my fellow brothers and sisters thanks for helping me out with my question...

to BUBBA87, you ignorant a**... Yes, I'm still here on the job as a full time officer and doing quite well after 5 years. If you really are a cop, I'd hate to see what you are like when there would be a legit reason to be upset. Have you tried anger management? This forum isn't the place for your useless tirades.

And so, will Bubba respond?
CAN Bubba respond, Dudes?

Stay tuned to this Bat Channel!

Hey Bubba, you had the night off last night. Did you go hang with your new
friends, sniper and wgciv?
