Our City has HMO Blue Cross/ Blue Shield ( that covers nearly everything you could possibly need with very little co-pay ). Individual contribution of about $40 per week and w/spouse $105 per week. These rates are available for Perm. Reserves and F/T Officers.

Are these rates high, low or average. What do you pay in? Just curious.

HMO Network Blue New England runs me $78 per week for the family plan.

co-pays 5/10 for RX and ER visits are 25

Posted by: lpwpd722

We have BCBS HMO Blue...the town contributes 75%...I pay 63.22 a week for family plan. I'm not sure what a single would pay. co pays are $5 for office visits and $25 for er. Prescriptions are 10/20/35.

We also pay 75/25. My weekly payment for the family plan is around $75.

Our is a 70/30 split. i pay 178 every 2 weeks.

20% for family plan - includes Delta Dental, etc.,, $5for office visit, $25 ER visit, unless you are hospitalized - $5 for generic 'script, $10 for brand name "script - after you retire you pay 10 % for family plan

We're currently 90/10, but the city is pushing hard to get 80/20.

Posted by: mikemac64

We pay 15% with the weekly family contrinbution about $50.00. We gave them 5% last time and this time they want us at 30%.

Posted by: Cartman

You guys are all lucky. We pay 40%, the town pays 60%. Cheap bastards!

Posted by: BUBBA87

I pay 40% or 105 for the family plan. We have Delta Dental, however I think we have the poverty plan. My kids just had fillings and I had to foot 64% of the cost.

At least you have something. Everytime we try to get dental they just laugh.

Does anyone know if under the new health insurance law there is a list of accepted insurance companies. I am trying to find out if a out of state insurance company is up to MA standards, I think it does not provide enough coverage. Obviously a cheapo option for the company to save money.

MGH $29.00 a week family plan, BCBS (Partners plus) which is a very good plan. Then Delta Dental $20.31 week, then Vision $3.81 week, all family plans.
I had surg. on my arm and only costy about $30.00(I think).

we're at 80/20 and they're pushing 75/25. The rate is contigent on every city union being on the same page.

I have State Hancock (now GIC...similar to BCBS Master Medical, not an HMO) $146 biweekly family. We have Delta Dental, too: my dentist (near Chestnut Hill Mall) laughs and says it's the worst plan available...but that it's better than a 'sharp stick in the eye'! I think we're 80/20 now</IMG>...

Unless you're in the GIC, different unions can have different health care rates. Our superior officers just agreed to go to 80/20, and we're still 90/10.

Posted by: csauce777

At my FT job, we're GIC and its 80/20. At my PT job its 50/50...at a municipal police department...ouch

Posted by: Nachtwächter

I pay 0% for Tufts and 0% for Delta Dental. If I get married then I would have to pay $10 a week for dental.

There is a law pending in the legislature (almost certain to pass) that will allow cities and towns to join the GIC. The rub is that the union's rates will stay the same, unless changes are negotiated. This is a great chance for unions to negotiate more favorable health insurance rates, because the city/town will save millions by joining the GIC, and will probably be amenable to changing rates.

You do lose plan design by going GIC, but they offer something like 5 or 6 different plans now, so I don't see that as a big deal.

a few questions?

how many superior officers in that union?
have you always had seperate unions?
how about shared things like details?

1) About 50+.

2) Yes.

3) Sergeants go on the list with patrolmen, lieutenants & captains cannot work details except in a supervisory capacity (although we turn a blind eye when the list is exhausted).

Posted by: rocksy1826

the one big perk of the place i work is that our contract requires them to give us free BC/BS, free Guardian dental and free life insurance with no pay in at all.

the head guy is really huge on us all having healthcare. for all the sucky parts of the contract? the free insurance perk is a huge awesomeness

Interesting. Our rank is about the same and the union includes the Captains.

I could never see Lieutenants and Captains giving up details. Unless of course, there was a greater pay scale involved.

Thanks
