SALARY RANGE: 17.87 - 20.33 USD HourlyOPEN PERIOD: Monday, December 11, 2006
to Friday, March 16, 2007SERIES & GRADE: GS-0025-05/07POSITION INFORMATION: Full-Time Temporary position not to exceed 1039 hours.DUTY LOCATIONS: 12 vacancies - South Wellfleet, MA WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED:Applications will be accepted from United States citizens and nationals.
JOB SUMMARY:Up to 12 positions may be filled through this announcement.
Temporary positions not to exceed 1039 hours. The incumbent may be required to work varied shifts (days, evenings, nights) weekends and holidays.

A second cut off date for receipt of applications is February 23, 2007; applications received by the closing date of March 16, 2007 will be considered if all positions have not been filled. MAJOR DUTIES:
BackToTop(); Incumbent will serve as a new or experienced field law enforcement ranger in the Resource and Visitor Protection Division, implementing diverse visitor and resource protection programs with primary emphasis on law enforcement. Performs law enforcement throughout the park, including road patrols, traffic enforcement, boundary integrity, hunting patrols, etc. Investigates vehicle accidents and issues citations. Responds to emergency calls and takes initial action necessary to preserve the peace, resolve problems, protect visitors and resources, apprehend violators and ensure compliance with regulatory and administrative requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Applicants must meet qualification standards as specified in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) standards for the GS-025-05/07 as shown below.
Park Ranger GS-025-05 -
4 year course of study above high school leading a bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours of related course work OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-04.
Park Ranger GS-025-07 -
Work Experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-05. OR
Education: one full academic year of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation.
OR
Any equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
Education: Major study natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.
Specialized experience is experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to the following:
Park guide or tour leader;
Law enforcement or investigative work;
Archaeological or historical preservations research work;
Work in forestry and/or fire management activities in a park, recreation or conservation area - Management assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. Any equivalent combination of the above defined experience, education, or training is also qualifying.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless of whether compensation was received or whether the experience was gained in a part-time or full-time occupation. Full-time work is generally considered to be 35 to 40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is covered under the special pay provisions for Law enforcement Officers.
Applicants must meet the minimum entry age requirement of 21 years. A law enforcement commission is required for this position. The selectee must be able to secure and maintain an NPS Type II Law Enforcement commission. Applicants who do not hold commissions will be considered, however if selected must be able to obtain the commission before entry on duty. To obtain a Type II Law Enforcement commission the following is required:

Successful completion of an approved NPS seasonal training academy within three years immediately preceding the date of the application for the commission [applicants who have not met this criterion must have successfully completed another training academy curriculum (equivalent in content to the FLETC basic curriculum), as determined by the Department of the Interior with the concurrence of the NPS Superintendent at FLETC) and must have been employed as a full-time law enforcement officer in another Federal, State, or local law enforcement agency, in other than a probationary status, within the three years immediately preceding the date of application for commission. Service as a security officer, volunteer, or non-sworn support employee does not satisfy this law enforcement commission requirement.
Selectee must:
Receive a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
Successfully complete and pass a medical examination and fitness screening. Prior to appointment, the selectees must meet the requirements of the Director’s Order #57, Occupational Medical Standards, and pass a medical examination given by an authorized government physician.
The selectees must participate in a physical fitness program and test under the PEB (Physical Efficiency Battery)as mandated.
Successfully pass a drug test. The applicants selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment, and is subject to random drug testing after selection.
Applicants must maintain a current American Red Cross Standard First Aid Card and be certified in CPR.
Incumbent must operate a government vehicle; therefore a valid state driver’s license is required. (Note: You must indicate in your application whether you possess a valid driver’s license or will obtain a valid driver’s license prior to the start date if you are selected. You will be required to present your license at time of entrance on duty.)
Government housing may be available. Shared quarters do not provide facilities for housing family members and/or pets.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid by the Agency. Any travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
Incumbent is required to wear a uniform. A uniform allowance is provided.
Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors with high heat, humidity, and insects in the summer months.
The applicant must be able to possess firearms under the terms of the Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended (18 U.S.C. 922 (G)(9)). An individual with a conviction of a misdemeanor (or higher level) crime of domestic violence will not be eligible for the position.
The selectee will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties and maintain firearm proficiency.

All Federal employees are required by PL 104-134 to have federal payments made by Direct Deposit.

4. Knowledge of and experience in resource management and resource protection duties (threatened and endangered species, marine mammals, hunting enforcement, Archeological Resource Protection Act, natural and/or cultural resource management).
