You need a Bachelors degree....WOW

Posted by: tazoez

and 2 yrs experience. I guess I'm out, -- I'll call on Wed to campus police to verify.

It is a very sqared away Police dept.

They are looking for candidates for an existing position opening soon. The chief will be retiring at the first of the year, so there may be some upward movement in the ranks which will cause another officers position to be open.

The minimum requirements have some "fluidity" to them... for the right person(s), Especially if you finish up your degree post-hiring (for free). Personally, I'd take good experience any day over most education.

any idea what the pay is like?

Posted by: sgt128-13

I think starting is around 33K/yr but there's room for improvement depending on candidates training/experience.

First interviews are starting next week!

I was a bit surprised when I saw this in the paper. I thought all colleges sent you to the campus police academy and that's usually stated in the ad. I don't see it listed here.

I think they're looking for someone who's already been through the SSPO Academy.

I just stopped by the campus police office yesterday, the officer told me that he didn't believe that prior experience (lateral) was a sticking point.
However, a 4 year degree is a sticking point -- they are not looking at people without it already (can not finish post hire).

I believe that as a condition of being armed, all new hire police officers must have a 4-year degree to be considered for appointment. I think 3/4 of the applications were being tossed for not meeting the minimum requirements.

I believe that is what I was told too.
