Here is a question I have found several different answers to I need help.
My LTC is due for renewal in April, I have never taken the safety course mandated, however I have recently left my Law Enforcement position, in fact at the full time academy is where I received my training, I still have the certificate from 1988, I had taken the department training yearly thereafter, the last time was2-3 years ago,the dept. renewed my licence ever since. Now that I'm out do I have to take the safety course before April ? Keep in mind that when I left the "Chief" screwed me and changed the LTC from proper purposes to employment only.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the safety course is only for someone who is applying for a new license not a renewal. You said the chief changed it, so do you live in the town that you worked for?. If not, just renew it in the city/town that you live and have it changed to all lawful purpose.

I might be wrong but I was told if it's the town that original issued it couldn't be downgraded. Boston did the same thing to me but I was told that because it wasn't issued by them they consider me a new applicant opposed to a renewal. Also the second time I renewed they required me to take the safety course again. Hope this helps.

Your right only "required of new applicants", same with hunter safety class. If you had previous hunter license don't need class. Many departments do different things though. I know a department that makes you qualify at their range. Law doesn't require that though.
