let's say I know of people who have applied with full acad and plenty of time in and not even a call but yet the last two hires not even the p/t acad or degree.....
This is common w/ many pd's, they often look to the the "lesser qualified" so as not to have the more qualified applicant who is already academy trained leave the job. Also, why would an experienced academy graduate want a 28-29k a yr job..
I was w/ a PD back in 2000 and the chiefs position was posted, we had retired police capts and an army PM apply and an in house hs drop out sgt w/ a GED. Guess who got the job....

Ok, I understand that, and I'm sure those who got the job are motivated to get their careers going and I'm all for that. Just very different than what has been done in the past and also the whole ability to receive powers.... The Sgt. with the dept is a great guy straightforward very knowledgeable guy. The rest of the dept well the verdict is still out on that... they mean well and all but with NO training how is one to respond?
It's a State job apply, if you get it good steping stone if not... there are plenty of other places hiring. Allways the private schools that pay $$$ or other State Schools. I heard BSC is building a new dorm. I wonder if the dept. will be expanding.

I interviwed there about two years ago. At the time, they didn't seem to have a police Chief. The director of facilities seemed to run things. He was a pleasant guy but gave me all the wrong info on the SSP qualifications.
I actually got the right info from the MassArt Chief.
Mass Bay is a nice campus considering it is a 2 year commuter college. They had no overnight shift or second shift on the weekends. They had a smaller campus in Framingham and used a cruiser to patroll there.
I talked to a Woburn Cop who worked there for a few years and he didn't have anything negative to say about the place.
The Ch 4 I-Team report was about the new President who spent over 100k on her inaugrarial celebration even though the school has cut staff and has budget problems.
She flew people in from Hatti and some of the special events were attended by only 15 people.

no car got nixed... went to another C.C. and well the Cop that you mentioned he too moved on now with a new administration new faces show up...As for the director he is a good guy and can’t say if he did not mislead you or not although depending on who you interviewed with you may have gotten bad information, although officers there in the past have gotten SSPO powers. The Woburn cop is a good guy very professional although he left I believe in 04? So some of the players he knew are no longer there given the new administration... as for the I team stuff you can read about what was out to the general public but we all know there is always more behind every story... Yes, I'm an alum from there and sad to say it has changed for the worse student wise. I would not go there now and as for the dept well anyone who has questions feel free to shoot me a pm and I'll tell you straight up what you want to know. I believe the Sgt. may make a visit on this post I’m sure.
