I'm starting the Boylston reserve academy on Dec. 11th and I had a question. I heard that if I don't find a job within a year, I will lose the certification and I will have to do it over.(I Have a sponser, no police job yet) Any truth to this? Thanks for the help guys.

I could be wrong, but im pretty sure as long as keep up with Reserve in service training and go to CPR/First responder training on your own you good for longer then just a year.

You just need to do the 40 hrs inservice to keep up your R/I certification.

,

No problem, good luck with getting on. Thats how i started. its a great way to get you foot in the door.

It's 40 hours of inservice every year, which may or may not include all the first responder stuff...

There is no time limit on the R/I Academy.
In-service for Reserves is 28 hrs.
Inservice is not necessary to keep the certification if you don't have a job.
Once you do get a job the hiring agency should get you to get your cert's(CPR F/R and Firearms) up to date. If it has bee a while they should have you do a retake of the Law Exam and do a in-service.

But, the bottom line is that the R/I does NOT have the same 5 year no work limit like the full time academy.

Heres a loop, how bout the college guys working with the R/I and degree.. going to 8 Hr SP Inservice joke?

Posted by: j809

I started out many years ago in Randolph Aux, left and after three years I worked as a reserve for a municipal PD. SO I was out of the loop for three years and I never had to go to the academy again. Just had to attend inservice when I started there.

what if your dept does not require you to attend in-service?

Posted by: 209

Does not require you ...or too cheap to send you?

Posted by: DOD/272

Ahh, you got it... cheap doesn't cover it.

Yeah what kind of bullshit is that. Officers on the street not getting proper training updates because money....And guess who is going to look like an ass for not knowing the law and following an old law possibly arresting someone for something that is no longer arrestable.
