Duo Accused Of Racking Up Thousands On Fake Credit Cards

MANCHESTER, Conn. -- Police uncovered an alleged identity-theft scheme as a man and woman attempted to make thousands of dollars in purchases on a fraudulent credit card at a Manchester store Monday.

Employees of Target on Buckland Hills Drive contacted police after the pair opened Target charge accounts and made expensive purchases. The identifications used to open the accounts were from out of state and Target employees said the two were acting suspiciously.

South Windsor police said that the man was eventually identified as James Mack, 32, after he originally provided false identification. Police said Mack's last-known address was in Emeryville, Calif.

Police said that while speaking with Mack, they suspected that he was in possession of drugs and found marijuana in his vehicle after further investigation. Numerous fraudulent documents containing personal information of other individuals, multiple fake identification cards and credit cards were also found in Mack's vehicle, police said.

Mack was arrested at the scene and his identity was later established through the FBI fingerprint lab, police said.

Police also arrested Shadeenah Bolden, 23, whose last-known address was in Manchester. Police said that Bolden also originally gave police false identification and was found to be in possession of fraudulent documents.

"Even with us they used face IDs. We had to check their fingerprints to see who they really were," said Officer Caleb Lopez.

Both Bolden and Mack have extensive criminal histories, according to South Windsor police, and made fraudulent purchases at Target totaling $2,156.57 Monday.

Police said that the pair was brazen enough to have the store's employees help push three cartloads of electronics and children's toys to their car, not knowing the employees had called the police.

Mack and Bolden face charges including forgery, false statement to procure issuance of credit card, identity theft, illegal use of a credit card by nonholder, criminal impersonation, interfering with a police officer, larceny and possession of marijuana.

Both Mack and Holden were held on $200,000 bonds.
