Police Chief Asks Hunters To Move Weigh Spot

UPTON, Mass. -- A hunting controversy erupted in one Massachusetts town, with some parents in Upton saying deer hunters are coming too close to a local school for comfort.

The hunters are weighing deer carcasses next to a preschool playground.

NewsCenter 5's Shiba Russell reported that Massachusetts wildlife officials were weighing deer carcasses in a VFW hall parking lot across the street from a preschool. Warm November temperatures have meant that the children playing outside are exposed to the hunters weighing their kills.

"It is inappropriate. Without a doubt," one parent said.

One parent was concerned enough about the situation to call police. The chief said it was not a good situation.

"We didn't think it was an appropriate area, being 20 feet from a playground, with preschoolers there watching the deer carcasses come in," Upton Police Chief Thomas Stockwell.

By late Monday, the scales were moved across the parking lot. The VFW officials who gave Massachusetts wildlife permission to use the spot had been picked to keep traffic moving safely on Route 140. They said it was their property and they could use it as they wish.

"Even if the police chief says no, we can say, well, mind your business," said John Saucier of VFW Post 5594.

Wildlife officials said the deer kill is an educational opportunity that shows children just how they track the deer population.

Sounds like my neighbors when I hang a deer in my yard

Fucking people are stupid, they have kept carving the carcuses right there. Like the guy said he could have told the chief to mind his own buisness, and he should have.

these are the same people who build their homes on land that once belonged to the deer but have now become displaced.

Weren't too concerned then were you.
