A controversial issue.

As a professional body we are under constant scrutiny from the public, and from internal departments from within our own Forces. The biggest issue it seems is the one involving Race and Diversity.
Nobody panic and start cleaning their computers, i just want to throw a subject in the air for discussion !
For a long time now in England there has been a Black Police Association (BPA), run as a National (NBPA) and Force group, some of these incorporate the Asian Police Association. However not so long ago there was a division in this group, and there is now an Assosiation of Muslim Police (AMP). Also much publisised is the Jewish, Christian, and Gay Police Associations.
These groups help to assist their members, and promote understanding within the Police and community, as well as helping with welfare, recruitment and retention.
Only last week moves have been made to start an association for Police Officers of Irish decent.
This leads me to ask, are these associations running in the United States ? and secondly, and more controversialy, do you think there will ever be a White Police Officers Association ? Or would this be seen to be a racist group ?

Good question. There are Police Emerald Societies (I'm a member), as well as other ethnic based law enforcement groups here in U.S. We have Black Police Officers Association, Asian Police Officers etc. As an American who really did dig into my heritage and found my routes in Counties Sligo and Cork, I appreciate where I come from and re-enforce those feelings through the Police Emerald Society.I am so aware and comfortable with that experience that I also feel that police officers (as well as others) of every heritage could become more understanding and tolerant properly using membership and participation in such groups. We do have to be careful that the basis for the establishment of these groups or our membership is not grounded in superiority or intolerance. Besides...we have great fellowship and the Guiness is good

There will never be a White Police Officers Association in the USA it would be considered the same as the KKK racist.

Harry's right over here every minority group has some sort of "association" looking out for their best interests. But an association for white officers? No way, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be all over you like, well white on rice.. I'd like to believe we all bleed blue but that's a myth.
As far as the fraternal/cultural org's (Emerald society, et al), whatever, I'm American....

Houston P.D. had a white police officer's association, not sure if it is still active. I believe it was created somewhat in jest to prove a point. We don't have a gay officer's association, they used to have one, but the name was later changed to the female officer's association.
