Until the new system gets updated, then you need to take a completely new class
to get E911 certified.

Most departments will ignore the fact that you have one, I mean it might help getting you in the door but they will send you again as a CYA measure, plus the number your were assigned was for your previous department.

I was told it was good forever...I got certified in Boston 1997-2003, I started worcester police and fire in January, I had to get re-certified....they gave me my old number though.

Your cert is good for life and will keep the same nuber at a new dept unless someone at your new department has that number.

Now if your only certified on the old system but not the new VESTA system and your new dept has the VESTA, then you will have to get certified in the new VESTA system which is a 16 hour course.

It is good forever, but you have to have your number transferred to your new department. Have your psap supervisor call for you. And like fscpd said, you have to take a new 2 day class when your department gets the new 911 system.

"Have to have it transferred to the new dept"?

Does that mean some people actualy "log in"? 0000 was the number everywhere I have worked.....

If it was "0000" then you were never logged in and do not have the new 911 system

Posted by: Curious EMT

Correct. I logged in my first week, then noticed it was always at 0000 before I came in, and said F it. Move on to another dept, no log on their either.

Correct on the new system, apparently someone MUST be logged on...

Posted by: USMCMP5811

Yup, must always be logged on for it to work.

Posted by: LKat20

Right....logged on....but I am pretty sure one lucky person is signed on for the rest of us....I don't know my password for the new system...well, it might be "password".

Most of the time I forget to log in. When I do remember my number is still there from last time I remembered to sign in. So, evidentally, I'm not the only one that forgets. lol
