SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) Springfield Police Commissioner Edward Flynn is reorganizing the police department. He's divided the city into three sections and promoted three officers to deputy chiefs to oversee those areas. Flynn says the plan will help the department target crime more aggressively at the neighborhood level. People living in Springfield think the police department's plan will solve the city's crime problems. Peter Diaz said, “It will benefit the people living here. It is safer now with 24 hour surveillance and cops.” Captain Mark Anthony was promoted to acting Deputy Chief, serving as operational support division commander. Anthony will be responsible for managing the department’s investigative operations and tactical support units and for supporting daily operations of the geographic divisions. Watch the video
