A routine check for stolen vehicles Thursday led Corpus Christi Police to two men sought by the San Antonio Police Department in connection with two felony crimes.
Police noticed a female passenger inside a stolen 2000 Ford Explorer in the parking lot of Motel 6 at South Padre Island Drive and Paul Jones Avenue late Wednesday, said Capt. John Houston. Police approached the vehicle and questioned the woman, who said she was abducted by brothers Jesse and David Sauceda, who had weapons. Police called 18-year-old Jesse Sauceda's motel room. He answered the phone, first refusing to come out, Houston said. After negotiating with the SWAT team, which was called because weapons were a concern, Jesse Sauceda came out of the room shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday, Houston said. David Sauceda, 27, was in another room with female guests and escaped, Houston said the women told police. He was arrested about 2 p.m. Thursday at SPID and Ennis Joslin Road after being spotted by officers at a gas station. A 9-millimeter pistol was found in his waistband, police said. The brothers are accused of breaking into a woman's home in San Antonio, stealing money and jewelry, then placing duct tape around her wrists, ankles and mouth before leaving in her Ford Explorer, according to San Antonio Police Sgt. Gabe Trevino. In addition to being wanted for aggravated assault and robbery in connection with the home invasion, San Antonio police also said the Saucedas were being investigated in connection with a Nov. 9 double shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition, according to Houston. Trevino did not confirm whether the brothers were wanted for questioning in the shooting, citing the department's policy to not release names until charges have been brought. David Sauceda is wanted by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on a parole violation. Jesse Sauceda is wanted on a Texas Youth Commission directive to apprehend, similar to an arrest warrant, for his suspected involvement in the San Antonio crime. Both brothers had warrants for their arrests and each received additional charges from the Corpus Christi Police Department. According to Houston, David Sauceda, who had not been booked into the Nueces County Jail late Thursday afternoon, was charged with felon in possession of a firearm. Jesse Sauceda remained in the Nueces County Jail on Thursday on an $50,000 bond for a charge of aggravated kidnapping, along with the Texas Youth Commission warrant, for which there was no bond.
