Video: Burglaries Took Place Hours Before Release Of PlayStation 3

BEDFORD, N.H. -- Police are investigating whether a series of break-ins at video game stores in three states may be connected.

Just after 7 a.m. on Friday, burglars broke into EB Games in Derry. Police said they stole thousands of dollars worth of video games and electronics. The store wouldn't say whether any of the stolen items were the PlayStation 3.

Another EB Games store in Bedford was also hit at about 11:20 p.m. on Thursday.

"They immediately noticed there had been a problem within the store. A forced entry was made into the building from the rear," said Bedford police Detective Matthew Fleming.

The thieves stole 18 XBox 360 game consoles valued at $7,200.

Police suspect the burglars were really looking for the PlayStation 3.

"That would be one of our suspicions," said Fleming. "It's a high-value item. It's very popular on the market. You can see that by watching TV. Everybody's looking for them."

Fleming said that the two New Hampshire stores were among at least 10 gaming stores burglarized. The other crimes were committed in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Police said if the cases are connected, federal investigators could step in.

Fleming said investigators are studying surveillance tapes in New Hampshire to try to identify suspects.
