TAUNTON, Mass. -- A Taunton mother and daughter were arrested in connection with a string of break-ins.
NewsCenter 5's Jim Boyd reported Thursday that when they were taken into custody, police allegedly found drugs and thousands of dollars in stolen goods inside their residence.
Police raided the apartment of Joanne Foster, 47, and her 18-year-old daughter, Tiffany, on Wednesday. They were charged in Taunton District Court Thursday afternoon with receiving stolen property and violations of several drug laws.
"It's really a sad situation -- a mother and daughter. It really is. The drug passes from the mother and the daughter. They are doing drugs together and stealing together," Taunton Police Department Chief Raymond O'Berg said.
Police said that about 90 homes in Taunton have been broken into.
"The last house I lived in was broken into, and it was the first time that anything had been stolen from me, so it was really bad," resident Kelly Cunningham said.
"I just had an alarm installed in my building, so I am not too worried," resident Paul Hadfield said.
On Wednesday, a 30-year-old man was arrested during an attempted breaking and entering at Mike's Gas Station. On Sunday, police arrested a 41-year-old man who was allegedly attempting to steal computers from the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

The chief created a special squad of officers and a sergeant to go out and specifically address this "crime wave" we've been experiencing. And I must say, those guys did a great job. Of course there will be grievances to follow........oh well.
