ROCHESTER — A Carver man was arrested after leading police on a car chase down Perry's Lane and Mary's Pond Road yesterday. Rochester police tried to pull over Mark Lyons, 43, who allegedly was driving 66 mph in a 40 mph zone in the area of Leonard's Pond at 1:14 p.m. Mr. Lyons is accused of attempting to elude police by abrupty turning down Perry's Lane and speeding to the end of the dead-end dirt lane. Police said they saw Mr. Lyons throw a small white package from his vehicle into the woods during the chase. Police said Mr. Lyons stopped his vehicle briefly, then sped off again when a Rochester police officer began to exit his cruiser. He drove back onto Mary's Pond Road, heading toward County Road, where Marion police were called in with spike strips to deflate his tires. Police said Mr. Lyons stopped short of the strips and refused to exit his vehicle or cooperate with police. After a brief struggle, Mr. Lyons complied when he was threatened with pepper spray, police said. Mr. Lyons was charged with a series of motor vehicle-related charges. He also was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, his fifth such offense, police said. He also was charged with cocaine possession after police recovered a small amount of the drug from his vehicle's front seat. Mr. Lyons was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Framingham District Court for cocaine possession and driving on a suspended license. He was held overnight without bail, and will appear in Wareham District Court today.
