Kansas authorities are searching for a convicted felon who told police he would never go back to prison. Basehor police said Kirtis Davenport was armed when he kicked open his wife's door on Sunday night in a jealous fit. "He'd said he'd received some text messages saying there was another man in the home with his wife," Detective Lloyd Martley said. "He went over, kicked in the door, looking for the suspect. He said if the dude had been in the house, he would have killed him." Police said there was no other man at his wife's apartment in Basehor. She said in her statement to police that when Davenport kicked in the door, he was holding a pistol and was screaming, "Where's he at? Who's here with you?" She told police that she didn't know what he was talking about and that she was afraid of what he would do. A short time later, Martley got a strange phone call from Davenport, who has already served five years in Kansas prisons for burglary and theft. "I was notified by Leavenworth County dispatch that he would only talk to me," Martley said. He said Davenport admitted that he broke in to his wife's apartment carrying a gun. "He knows he'll go back to jail if he's arrested," Martley said. "He told me he was not going back to jail. That if anybody messed with him, his family, or his kids, he would kill them." Police don't know the origin of the text messages that first set off Davenport, or whether they existed at all. Officers believe Davenport is a dangerous man.
