DERRY, N.H. -- A New Hampshire Fish and Game Department commissioner who was accused of improper hunting behavior said the woman who confronted him tried to emphasize her point by delivering a severed deer's head to his house.
Former Derry conservation commissioner Eleanor Sarcione now is being investigated on trespassing and illegal possession of a deer carcass without proper Fish and Game tags. She initially said she resigned after the matter was brought to the town council, citing a need to recuperate from Lyme disease.
Now, she said she didn't know what she did was illegal. She said she agreed to step down after making a deal with town officials and Stephen Nottonson, the Fish and Game Commissioner for Rockingham County, who said he would remain silent about it.
Nottonson says Sarcione trespassed on his property November first when she showed up unannounced at his door and presented him with a deer's head she found with a gut pile in the woods.
Nottonson said Sarcione used the severed head as an example of unacceptable hunting, then went on to accuse him of shooting at deer from the doors and windows of his house.
