FORT BRAGG, N.C. — An Army lieutenant whose father was a brigadier general in the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg was one of two paratroopers killed by a car bomb in Iraq this week, military officials said. The father grew up in Worcester, Mass., where his son's funeral will be held, according to the Telegram & Gazette newspaper. 1st Lt. Michael A. Cerrone, 24, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Spc. Harry A. Winkler, 32, of Jacksonville, Fla., both of the 82nd Airborne Division, died Sunday while they were near Samarra. Cerrone was a 2004 West Point graduate and a platoon leader. Winkler enlisted in the Army in 2002, was the gunner in Cerrone's vehicle and was praised by commanders for his composure under fire. Cerrone listed his address as Tennessee because he was born there while his father, Brig. Gen. James Cerrone, was stationed at nearby Fort Campbell, Ky. Michael Cerrone grew up at Fort Bragg, where his father spent much of his career, 82nd Airborne Division spokesman Maj. Tom Earnhardt said yesterday. The father is a special assistant to the commander of Fort Bragg and the 18th Airborne Corps.
