ANOTHER one? Like I asked before, what's with all the turn-overs? The pay seems decent and I'm very well qualified and experienced, but I'm all set with getting involved in a shit-storm comm center

This is not a shit-storm comm center. If you would like to come and sit in your more then welcome. We always encourage people with experience to apply. However if you don't want to be here then ignore the posting because the feeling is mutual.

For others: For a long time the pay here was bellow par and as a result we had subpar employees. With subpar employees comes those that do not complete training and those that just leave. We had the personnel board investigate turnover situation and have since received a raise. Since then the applicants have been far more qualified and we have been near fully staffed for 3-4 months now.

Good bene's just liike most municipal departments. Salary range from 17.05-19.46. Shifts work on a bid process, it would most likely include some midsnights on a split shift.

Is shrewsbury hiring again....?

when I called down to the station aparently noone working knew if they were hiring or not. All they could tell me to do was come in and fill out an application. Is this an app to sit in the drawer or are there currently openings at the dept.

Lose the attitude. We are fully staffed, no openings.

"Lose the attitude.." Yes sir!!!! Oh wait... I dont report to you Capt. Dispatcher! I was looking to get information from your dispatchers who didnt seem to know if your team is understaffed... which wasnt a big deal. Thats why I came on here to ask you. Why is it so hard for you to simply say yes we are or no we arent. Don't get mad at me because deep down you are hurting because you have been passed over on the list. Listen pal... its not my fault. I know I know.... your professional and you have integrity..... bla bla bla.... You crack me up... They give you a uniform and you think your a cop. I would hate to be around if they gave you a gun and cuffs. Take down a notch RoboCop!

Hey just out of curiosity.... how many departments have you worked for before you found one to put up with your bullshit......

Okay, no clue how to use this site, but I was wondering if any of you could answer a very stupid/simple question for me. I really would like to get a dispatch job, but am not interested in becoming a police officer (nothing personal, just not cut out for it). What are the general requirements for a dispatch position and is this something that is attainable, or do I have to enroll in a special program/training prior to even applying? Very stupid questions, I'm aware, but I would greatly appreciate some help. Need a serious career change and this is something I've always wanted to do... thanks

ROTFL.

Sorry, but watching you two go at it... even two weeks after the fact... is very funny to me after a 16 hour day. LOL.

The general requirements are:
A clean background

The ability to work nights, weekends and holidays

The ability to use computers and maintain logs and data files

The ability to multi task - huge one

The most important. Thick skin. People will yell at you and take there frustrations out on you because for the most part you are the only person in town who cannot hang up on people. Usually.

Most departments do not require previous training or experience to apply. They will send you for all the training and qualifying you need after you have been hired.

If you have no interest in becoming a cop, tell them that in the interview, only make sure you tell them why. They may like that. I know in my dept one of the things we look for is people who will dedicate themselves to the job for a long time, as opposed to someone looking to get their foot in the door on their way to becoming a cop. Most places don't want to hire and train someone who is going to leave in a year.
