Is there anyone out there that is currenty working at UMASS Lowell that could give me the inside scoop on the job. I find myself in a situation that is requiring me to leave an urban dept in metro boston and have not been able to find a lateral transfer option in the lowell area. So I see that UMASS had a posting looking for officers.

Any info would be great as they have made me an offer and I have to decide what to do soon.

Thanks.

Check out the website.....look at the police logs. There are problems....but aren't there problems everywhere? To be considered for the job you must take the written test...the deadline was extended to November 14th.

I believe that UMass Lowell is the #2 UMass Police Department behind Amherst activity wise. I know Amherst gets all the toys and equipment but Lowell get's nothing.

It says on there website they respond to about 66,000 calls for service each year. Not bad for a university P.D.

Good luck with your job search

I have a question, I'm taking the test in 2 day, is this test anything like MA civil service at all? And any idea's how many officers should be hired after this test?
Thank you in advance

the test is nothing like Civil Service. I used the ARCO book to study and passed with an 87. The first part of the test is looking and making notes from a diagram. They then take the diagram away and you have some very specific questions to answer relating to the diagram. I am going from memory here, but I believe Aafter that there are questions about map reading, facial recognition, situational questions... if you review the study guide, you will have a good understanding. If you haven't prepared or studied, I don't know how well a person may do. Good luck. If you have any more questions, PM me as I used to work there.
