Umm...who, huh, what?

Massachusetts Coalition of Police

Press Release

On Monday October 9, 2006 President Hugh J. Cameron announced the endorsement of Deval Patrick for Governor and Tim Murray for Lt. Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
First and foremost, protecting our citizens is a job that the Massachusetts Coalition of Police takes very seriously. We need serious leaders at the State level who will work in partnership with cities and towns and law enforcement to prevent, prosecute and punish crime.
The Massachusetts Coalition of Police believes that strong leadership will be provided by Deval Patrick and Tim Murray. Deval Patrick was a federal prosecutor. Tim Murray is a large city mayor. Both have experience fighting crime. They won’t just talk the talk, they will walk the walk and give law enforcement the tools we need.
Mr. Patrick has proposed adding 1000 new police officers in communities across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Justice Department which put more police officers on the street, reducing crime nationwide. We know that more police officers means less crime. On the other hand the last four years have given us tough talk, but no action.
One of the first actions of the current administration was drastic cuts in local aid, knowing full well the result would be a large numbers of police officers being laid off across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Our choice of Deval Patrick and Tim Murray not only serves to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth, by also serves to protect the law enforcement community, their families and their quality of life.
We need a new direction on crime, not more empty rhetoric. The Massachusetts Coalition of Police strongly believes that Deval Patrick and Tim Murray will provide that new direction.

MassChiefs are also behind Deval, especially after the LTC fiasco from Healey. MassCop waited till the end to make an endorsement of a candidate that will probably win this governor's race.

Police officers have an unwritten contract with the communities they protect.
It states: “ protect our communities and families and the community will provide retirement security for the police officers when they retire.”
The Healey pension plan if adopted would jeopardize policemen’s pension rights and steal our retirement security.
The Healey pension plan jeopardizes your pension, because the pension plan will be closed for new membership. Present police officers would remain in the existing system. However, without the millions of dollars from contributions from new members the pension system would be destabilized and put into a financial tailspin.
The Healey plan will require communities to run two retirement systems instead of one. It will be twice as expensive.
The Healey plan will require communities to join Social Security. This will cost employees and taxpayers of Massachusetts $3 billion more every year.
Mandating these additional costs on local communities will mean that cutbacks on spending will occur elsewhere. This will jeopardize future police contracts, which will translate into smaller salary increases and higher health care contributions for you.
New police officers would not be guaranteed a pension for life. Instead they would be forced to join Social Security, plus make contributions from their salary to a 401K plan. Local communities could also contribute to this plan but it would not be mandatory.
When a police officer covered under this new pension system retires, all they would have for retirement is what is left in their 401K plans, which is subject to the ups and downs of the stock market.
The results of the Healey pension plan would be less money for contract settlements, higher health care contributions, and an under-funded and unstable pension system.
Think about your future, when you vote.

Talking Points for Surrogates: Crime

Overall Message: Kerry Healey is going on the attack against Deval Patrick because she wants to distract from the Romney/Healey administration’s dismal record on crime.
On Deval’s Record and Plans On the Boston Herald Prisoner StoryOn Kerry Healey’s Record on Crime · Crime is up. Homicides and gun violence have risen sharply under the Romney-Healey administration. Homicides in Boston hit a ten-year high last year. Shootings in Boston for the first half of 2006 are up 75% compared to the same period in 2005, and murders are up 32%. From 2004 to 2005, murders in Boston rose almost 20% and violent crime rose more than 8%. The surge is not unique to Boston. From 2004 to 2005, robberies increased 26% in Lowell and 14% in Springfield.

On Deval’s Record and Plans
  • Patrick served in the U.S. Justice Department under President Bill Clinton, which put more cops on the street and drastically reduced crime. He has hands-on experience fighting crime.
  • As Governor, Deval Patrick will put 1,000 more police officers on the streets.
You aren't REALLY this naive, are you?? He "fought crime"? What crime? An inmate with an underinflated basketball??

1000 more cops? From where? The Sheriffs??

I can't believe people would take this guy at face value.

Posted by: HousingCop

Right on bbelichick, where are these 1,000 cops going to come from? How long will they be here? Will the state pay for them like the feds did under Klinton for 3 years and then the city/town picks up the tab? Deval will tax us back into the stone age. If you own a house or condo, say goodbye to Proposition 2 1/2. We may as all well move because Deval is giving the store away if he's sworn in.

Deval talks a good game but it's all smoke & mirrors. No hard facts to back up where he'll get the money for these outlandish proposals. We need a check & balance system on Beacon Hill. Kerry Healey is definately not the best candidate for the job but she is infinately better than "Free 'em all Deval".

So much for Mr Prosecutor. He's never been in a criminal court as far as the Globe can see. A recent rally for Healey was held and Deputy Superintendent Margo Hill ripped into him on the State House steps. Anybody see that? Fantastic TV.
A vote for disgruntled ex-Republican Mihouse (who I like by the way) or Gapped Toof Grace Ross is a vote thrown down the shitter. May as well stay home if you're going to vote for those two.
Healey won't touch the pension system for Police / Fire, Quinn Bill or Details. it's just election eve fluff. If she does try it will only be a half-hearted job and blame the Democratic House leaders for her inability to change it. HC

bballick sees his political hack about to get squashed at the polls.. boo hoo..
i love going back and reading your old posts boasting how the new gov was coming and going to clean house on the locals and there regional hopes.. good call.. another good call was the sp backing healy.. patrick is going to roll, oh well........ mpa picked the right horse, good for them.... dolt

Actually MPA endorsed Healey/Hillman, interesting.

Posted by: bbelichick

Dolt picked the right name for himself, he's a twit.

SPAM would never have endorsed Patrick. He is the worst possible candidate for Law Enforcement...but I guess if he makes a few BS promises, some idiots are ready to jump on his bandwagon...

Patrick will clean house on ALL police, wait and see.

i've been following a handful of your "wait and see predictions". i've yet to see one come true. you're a doom and gloom dope. just sit in your office and let the real cops do the work, we'll all be a lot better off. patrick won't hurt us anymore than your hack would. you could care less about "all police", you've shown in the past you only care about your interests; spam would close local pd's and take over everything if they could. the last thing locals need is a trooper in the big seat. just ask millville.
It must be frustrating to see the walls of the kingdom falling in all around you. ---dolt

I was at the MPA Convention in Plymouth last week, they did have Healey come in and make a last ditch effort to garner support. The MPA did endorse her way back....big mistake, but then again, the MPA makes lots of mistakes.
In fact, they gave Tommy Finneran a big award on thursday, with a standing ovation, isn't he under indictment?

Hilarious, you have no clue what SPAM would do. You are just a jerk. SPAM endorsed Romney and stood with Celucci and no harm was done to local PD's. Jane Swift was a huge SPAM supporter and SPAM did nothing to harm the locals. Why don't you dig a little deeper and find out how close the Quinn Bill came to being destroyed and how it was saved before you run your mouth little boy.

Walls of the Kingdom? If you knew anything about politics, you would know that SPAM has plenty of political juice and very little of it comes from the Governor's Office.

Go back under your rock. "Real cops" who work for a PD with over 10 guys don't need your B.S.

Posted by: youareadolt

spam didn't save the quinn to help the locals,,believe me we know the game. if they could have sold us out on that deal they would have. it doesn't take a whole lot of research into your past posts to see what you're all about. careful with the little boy comments, you might end up like the last trooper looking to talk to little boys. bballick, we all know that if this was an in person discussion you'd do like the rest of your type and pretend to be everyones buddy, then fuck'em over when you're in your circle. you're not fooling anyone. if you came out of your office from time to time you'd see that the political juice crap is starting to wear thin. take a look around, locals and sheriffs are starting to eat up all "your turf". Keep living the illusion that things are going to change, truth is--it has and you're being left behind. ------dolt

Keep believing that SPAM is out of the game, not even close...And by the way, your posts reveal you to be a little boy...Mr 10 man PD is a real cop?? Not even close. If I met you in person, I would certainly not pretend to be your friend, you can count on that.

Those unions endorsing Deval really think they will gain anything? Endorsing a candidate ahead 20+ points in the polls 2 weeks before the election? Wow, what balls.

Yeah, Patrick is the best if ya wanna see details and Quinn disappear, what a fool!!

Ouch, Im not throwing my hat in the ring for the political debate, but I work for a small department (slightly more than 10 cops, but not much) and I doubt that any of us consider ourselves any less "real" than you. Like I said, not looking to join a flame fest, but I just think that generalization is kina unfair...

I was thinking the same thing about the small town PD comment. That was a foolish, narrow-minded comment. You want to rip one another that's fine, but don't throw low blows at fellow brothers and sisters. One of those "trivial" departments may someday save your life or the life of one of your fellow troopers. Carry on with the political debate.

Quite the contrary...I've heard nothing but complements from them.

I've seen lots of small town PD's with great guys and they do a good job. But this guy cops a big city PD attitude and it just doesn't make sense. He talks like he's seen it all and done it all.

To be honest, I didnt even read back that far to see his comments. I just happened to scan the thread and noticed yours. I'm simply asking for the courtesy of not lumping all small town cops as being "not real." Anyway, no harm no foul...

NO REAL POLICE OFFICER or SENSIBLE Correction Officer would vote for a flaming liberal Democ rat like Deval "free them all " Patrick.. he is WAY out of touch... he donated $50000 of his own money to a rapist"s defense fund - a scumbag that was proven, by dna, to be the culprit of the rape and torture of a 59 year old woman....Deval's money would have been spent better on cancer research -.... BUT obviously, that was NOT a concern to deval patrick or the democ rats . his bleeding heart was for the culprit that destroyed this poor woman's life. The democ rats were more concerned about the cruel rapist than the victim - true- real life - absolutelty no friend of decent people - deval patrick is a proven scum bag apologist... what would you think of him if Your daughter was the victim... People who victimize others are the democ rats main concern... they whine all the time about parasite, hostile predators having rights ... how out of touch with decent, family orientated people..I will always vote Republican... like all honorable and smart people do....

So if we are about to fall, where does that leave you? You will still be in your little town, operting radar at 0400 trying to catch some speeder. Why are you so bitter at us? Were you not able to fufill your dream, so best defense mechanism is to create a fantasy in your mind that we are all done. SPAM has so much political muscle built up that we can weather the storm. I hope you let the Sheriffs in. It won't hurt us because we are written into law, but it will hurt you when the Sheriffs bump you off your road, steal your OT because some selectman sees a way to save money and create a dangerous situation for us all due to lack of training and solid hiring practices. Don't forget\, the Colonel, not the Sheriff is the highest law enforcement authority in this state, as written in law. Sweet dreams son.

Actually it's the Attorney General. And 4AM radar, we guys in small towns are in bed making $$$.

We are going to need a 1000 more cops because our freakin taxes will be so high that the crime rate will shy rocket.
I don't think any of the candidates that were running had the best interests of the citizens in mind any way.
Most politicians are self serving..too bad.
