State policeman caught in online sting

Suspended state police Sgt. Brian W. O’Hare was indicted in U.S. District Court in Boston last week on charges of coercion and enticement online of someone he thought was a 14-year-old boy to engage in prostitution or sexual activity.

The 19-year trooper was suspended without pay after he was arrested Feb. 24 on charges he pursued the boy, an FBI agent posing as a teenager, for months while working in the Holden state police barracks.

The indictment was handed up May 31, according to federal court papers. He is accused of coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in prostitution or sexual activity.

He had an initial appearance on the charge a few days after his arrest at a Medford mall, where officials said he had planned to meet the fictitious boy. Sgt. O’Hare’s brother, aunt and sister went with him to court Feb. 27 and his brother signed bond paperwork, agreeing to forfeit $50,000 of equity in his $400,000 home if Sgt. O’Hare violates the conditions of his release.

A lieutenant colonel in the National Guard, Sgt. O’Hare also was removed from his position as commander of the 211th Military Police Battalion and placed on administrative duty after his arrest.

He is from Lancaster, but hasn’t lived in his family’s home with his wife and children since February. Worcester County Probate and Family Court records list Sgt. O’Hare living in Dracut with his sister. The sergeant previously asked a federal court judge if he could live in Dracut.

Sgt. O’Hare is not allowed to use a computer or have unsupervised contact with children, including his teenage son.

A couple of weeks after his arrest, Anne O’Hare filed for divorce in Worcester County Probate and Family Court. Records show Mrs. O’Hare cites a breakdown in the marriage and her husband’s arrest as reasons for filing.

The two were married in Cambridge Nov. 9, 1991, and had a child more than a year later. Mrs. O’Hare had a son before the two were married. The children are 19 and 14, according to court records.

Former trooper expected to plead guilty in Internet case

By Scott J. Croteau TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF

WORCESTER—
A now-former state trooper charged earlier this year with coercing and enticing a fictitious teenage boy over the Internet will plead guilty in federal court, according to court documents.

Authorities today confirmed that Brian W. O’Hare is no longer a member of the state police. His resignation took effect yesterday, a state police spokesman said.

Mr. O’Hare, a state police sergeant when arrested in February, is charged in U.S. District Court with using the Internet to entice an individual under 18-years-old for sexual activity.

Yesterday, an updated court filing indicated the former Lancaster resident “intends to plead guilty to the charge(s) contained in the Indictment.”

Federal court records said Mr. O’Hare and federal prosecutors have agreed to a resolution in the case. A change of plea hearing was originally scheduled for Nov. 13, but paperwork filed yesterday said the Nov. 13 will now be a pre-trial conference.

Mr. O’Hare was arrested by FBI agents Feb. 24 after he engaged in an e-mail discussion with undercover agent who posed as a 14-year-old boy. He was arrested after he showed up at a Medford mall for what Mr. O’Hare believed would be a meeting with the teen. Instead, agents were waiting.

To the Monday morning quarterbacks on her who post about EVERYTHING, OK boys now's your chance.
IrishWampanoag, care to throw a couple of boots this guys way? Now's the time. He's fessed up to being a skinner after a long and solid career in the MSP. Remember, wear your steel toed boots, they hurt more......

He made his bed, let him lay in it.

I heard it will be five years at the Devens Federal Pen. Too bad, what a waste, I hope he finds himself and becomes a new person after this.

Sniper and J809, are you guys nuts?

I knew and respected this man. He's a disgrace to himself, his family and his agency!

We all know that these people do not, cannot change.

As they said in the God father, "He's dead to me!"

I think it is funny that you all seem to want to kick the shit out Deval Patrick for supporting rapists, etc... Yet now that it is a former police officer everyone wants to support him.

This guy is scum - he preys on children - I hope he gets his ass raped in prison

I only hope that no real kids fell prey to his sick fantasies; that the FBI got to him first...at least that way you limit the victims to his family and his job. The shame isn't just his.

He deserves whatever shots anyone wants to throw at him. He disgraced himself, his family, the Massachusetts State Police, and every other cop in the country.

He's beyond scum, and should be locked away for a very long time. I'm just glad it was the FBI waiting for him, instead of a teenage boy.

Chris Hansen from NBC's "Dateline" program has proven time and again that these pedophiles come from all walks of life, no career or person type is immune. And given the publicity of this particular program it is a wonder to me that these wingnuts still come out! Truly unbelievable!

Delta,
I fully agree that this guy has made himself and his (our) profession look bad. He does deserve everything he gets in prison and whatever people write about him in this thread.
What I was trying to get across is the sheer volume of people who post here once a cop is down and on charges. People on this board discard them like used condoms on here. They self congratulate each other for doing basic police work and then when one guy gets in trouble they back away and kick them under the oncoming bus.
NOW that this guy has admitted he's a fuckin' sick prick, NOW is the time to bash him. When the post first came out it was, "Hey I know this guy and I can't believe.... I worked with him and he's a squared away guy....... I showered with him in boot camp.... I can't believe they're doing this to a family guy... etc... ad naseum.
What I am asking is where are all the people who throw other cops under the bus when the going gets tough? Why aren't they posting now? When it's an MSPee guy like "Skinner" O'Hare or the coke sniffing freak Tim White from Stoughton or the supposed "boathouse rapist", everyone seems to chime in like they are the best friends of these guys.
Now that O'Hare has plead guilty or to sufficient facts, the SILENCE IS DEAFENING IN HERE.

O'Hare and White are disgusting, putrid disgraces to all Police, the people they worked with and the uniform they once wore.

Period.

Ditto...and don't forget Montero...

This guy is a disgrace to every solid law enforcement professional. I hope that the C.O.'s in whatever prison he lands in show him how to tie the knot properly, and remind him to cut UP, not across.
This turd has disgraced the law enforcement community and the military.

It was what we thought O'Hare was that we respected. What he had was a disgusting secret and thank God the FBI (no friend to the road trooper or officer) got this perv out of the Thin Blue Line.

well said 75.....................

Its sad and he deserves a hell of a lot more than he will get, but it does show that human frailty ISNT exempt from law enforcement, nor does it show stupidity isnt exempt, i mean, doesnt the state police run a sting operation of their own?? maybe not, just a small town cop trying to earn a living here, what do i know?
