There are a lot of new details today about a Douglas County deputy arrested on sex charges – a story Channel 2 Action News broke over the weekend.
Deputy Michael Wood has now been fired, and the sheriff says there may be more to the case against him.
He had the trust of the public and the Douglas County Sheriff – now fired deputy Michael Wood is being held without bond, accused of having sex with an inmate he was transporting.
The Douglas County Sheriff says the female inmate alerted jailers after Wood transported her from Cobb County Friday.
Investigators say the woman says Wood pulled over off Walton Store Road and had her perform sodomy. Deputies then found themselves arrested one of their own early Saturday morning.
“I’m embarrassed. I apologize to this community. We try very, very hard to get the best and we do have some of the best working here, but it doesn’t take but one out of over 300 employees…” said Sheriff Phil Miller.
Even more disturbing, Sheriff Miller says they’re investigating two other possible sexual incidents between Wood and female inmates. The sheriff says that information surfaced in the current investigation. The sheriff believes those incidents may have happened in other counties.
Wood had a sought-after job in the department transporting inmates – now he’s an inmate charged with sexual assault against persons in custody and violation of oath of office.

“It’s just a very sad day for us at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Miller.
