(New Haven-WTNH, Oct. 23, 2006 Updated 5:15 PM) _ Police are investigating a report of a woman that was kidnapped, beaten and left for dead in the College Woods Park section of East Rock Park.
  • by News Channel 8's Darren Duarte
Three men are accused of kidnapping the woman in Fair Haven and taking her to a park in one of the city's better neighborhoods to rape and beat her.
Under arrest are Guilebaldo Ramos, 23, Juan Flores, 22, and Elbel Sanchez, 21.
Police believe she was assaulted and thrown down an embankment moments before they arrived early Sunday at East Rock Park near Orange and Cold Spring Streets.
Residents and park goers are startled by the incident.
"You gotta keep the doors locked which isn't something you always think about when you're at home but if that kind of thing is gonna happen you have to," says Karissa Van Tassel.
Van Tassel is one of many mothers who bring their children here during the day. She says most of the adults stay away from the park at night too.
"It's totally unpopulated at night, so if you're a criminal it kind of makes sense to come here, but of course for someone that loves the park it's terribly sad to think that something so dramatic happened here," says Van Tassel.
Olga Noskova has been coming here for nine years and remembers when someone was attacked two years ago. She had hoped these kinds of crimes were in the past.
"It seems like the criminal situation is still bad in this area," says Noskova.
Van Tassel doesn't think it would be so bad if the city would just add more security in the evening saying, "It seems with all we pay in taxes you could get some lights in here which will certainly deter some people from coming in here to do anything not on the up and up."

The victim was taken to the hospital and police say they do not believe her injuries are life-threatening.
