So lets hear it, who took today's test and how did you do?

Posted by: zebra3

Sorry, I'm a "PFL"......Patrolman For Life.

Posted by: zebra3

But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Posted by: josa

anyone interested in sharing their answers?

Posted by: andy0921

I'm a SGT. now

Posted by: ppaauull

I've been taking these tests for 15 years and never seen one like this before. I don't think studying gave you any advantage on this test!

Posted by: Piper

I made Sgt on the '03 and Lt on the '05, was there much Iannnone on this most recent one? I knew that book from cover to cover...

Posted by: josa

I really thought this test would have sparked a little more chatter.

Posted by: pararezq

this test sucked,,do you think they'll ever make a test that actually test police knowledge...it's a joke...other than that everything is good..

Posted by: Clouseau

I'm curious too guys. What was the difference this year compared to years past.
PPaauull, care to elaborate on why you don't think studying would have helped?
What was the majority of the questions about?

Posted by: ppaauull

It was very different in that there were really no questions relevant to police work. There were absolutely no questions on domestics, motor vehicle, firearms, drugs, alcohol, criminal investigations, and one question related to juvenile. Virtually everything came out of the management books, and even those came from such obscure areas that no matter how hard you studied you would never concentrate on any of the areas where the questions came from. Although I didn't really study for this test, after taking exams so many times before I would expect to be familiar with most questions. I have never before seen any of the information contained in over half the questions. It seems unfair for the people that put much study time into it!

I was thinking the same thing....

So far out of the 10 to 15 that I have talked too, books, studying and seminars were a waste of time and money for this test.

I think I just donated $125 to the state....

Gotcha, thanks guys.

Anyone else take that classes from that Lt from Watertown? I heard he was the only one who was even close. I bought his flash cards which I thought were great. It probably got me 8 to 10 questions I would have missed otherwise but other than that the questions were totally out of the blue. Was Rogers of sheft on the money?

Man, I'm glad I read this thread. I thought it was just me. I had a miserable cold the day of the test and my eyes were spinning by the end of it. No PODSCORB, NO SARA, No SEEKMIST, No "Unkempt uniforms are a sign of low morale", No Kansas City Experiment, no firearms questions, none of the stuff I've seen in years past.
If this was a final exam for a Criminal Justice class it would have been a great exam; however, as a promotional exam for "hands on" positions it was miserable.

The talk around my department was that Rogers was way off.

I passed both Sgt. and Lt. in 1999. I couldn't believe how many areas that usually get hit weren't on it as well. There were some pretty tough questions on it as well. I've seen pretty smart people arguing answers on almost every con. law question. I thought I noticed a mistake in one question " The officer Brown observes Green rip up ticket what can you do? I swear my exam read what is the strongest action you can take against "Brown" and should have read "Green" anyone else see that?

Warrant Questions....

The cellar one (my answer) secure the area and get a warrant. Wrong answer I am almost positive.

The time a warrant has to be served (my answer) reasonable time.

The time a warrant has to be returned (my answer) 7 days

Comments?

Posted by: josa

I believe the answer to the first warrant question was search immediately, no warrant needed. Your right on the other two.

Pat Rogers, Justin Hanrahan, and John Scheft can't take blame with regard to this test. Questions were obscure, not to mention worded poorly with several typos. I have taken several tests, and this one was by far the most confusing and difficult. No alcohol, domestic, or firearms, but you had to know what to ask an applicant re: Amer. Disabilities Act !

I can picture the exam writing session with the head guy stating, "Let's just screw these little test takers this time, and to hell with everyday police work!"

I think there was a mole attending those classes and seminars, they found out everything that was covered and went back and revised the entire test just to mess with us....

Wasn't there a test a few years back that was so screwed up the chiefs pitched a bitch that they didn't have anyone to promote due to everyone failing.

Posted by: Bluestar

I believe what happened was that the passing mark for the test was lowered.

Posted by: irish937

You must be talking about the 2002 test. All 11 people from my PD failed. That test was ridiculous. In 2004, everyone passed.

Posted by: Bluestar

I have heard that Civil Service will be receiving several question appeals from this crazy test. The CHINS question, the warrant question, the parking ticket question, and several others with missing words, typos, and confusing grammar. Usually, only 3-4 questions actually get tossed out. This test should top that easily. I'll bet that the next test will be toned down because of this mess.

Posted by: Buford T

I will be willing to bet there will be few if any high scores on this next list.. It seemed to be a test telling all the prep people f.u. on all your material as very few areas in Scheft, Handrehan or Rogers touched upon the test questions. A VERY obscure exam. Good luck to all who passed, you deserve it...
