(Hartford-WTNH, Oct. 21, 2006 11:25 AM) _ Police are investigating a fatal accident on I-91 south, near exit 29, that killed an off duty police officer.
Police say the victim was 35-year-old Hartford police Officer Matthew Arace.
State police say his vehicle rear-ended a tractor trailer.
It happened just after 2 am.
That part of the highway was shut down all morning, but has since reopened.
The accident happened right where an overnight highway construction project has been taking place. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
Arace worked primarily in Hartford's Barry Square, South End and South Meadows neighborhood.
