NEW BEDFORD — Police arrested a 19-year-old man on a charge of gun possession Thursday after a family member helped them find the firearm. Department spokesman Capt. Richard Spirlet said officers responded to an emergency call in the west central area of the city at about 6:30 p.m. regarding a man with a gun and a family member chasing him. When they arrived, they arrested Cory Hayden of 662 Kempton St. after a relative helped them locate the gun near the Boys & Girls Club. Mr. Hayden was arraigned yesterday on one count of unlawful possession of a firearm. Police are researching the history of the gun and plan to send it out for ballistics testing.
