The Massachusetts Fraternal Order of Police was proud to be one of the lead sponsors of the first annual Trooper Paul F. Barry Motorcycle Run that was held on September 15th, 2006 at the Outlaw BBQ in Foxboro, Mass.
Massachusetts State Trooper Paul Barry was tragically killed in a cruiser accident while on duty on June 15th, 2006. The six year veteran of the State Police leaves behind his wife and their seven children.
The FOP State Executive Board was approached by Dale Bishop, the owner of the Outlaw BBQ and Cheryl Willis about holding a run in Trooper Barry's memory. Both Dale Bishop and Cheryl Willis were co-organizers of the run. The Fraternal Order of Police State Board was honored to be involved with such a great cause.
Tri-Town Lodge #30 member, Officer Tracey Juda was tasked with helping to set up the route of the run and also notify each community that the run would go through. We were very lucky that every community stepped up and provided assistance with traffic as the run traveled through their town. There was a great showing of municipal and county motor officers from as far away as Cape Cod that came out to help escort the run safely!
We were blessed with perfect weather and prior to the run Norton Police Officer and FOP Honor Guard member, Jim Franco sang the National Anthem to the over 600 riders that showed up to show their support. Moments after the National Anthem, all gathered were thrilled with a fly over by three military fighter jets. This was followed by a lone Massachusetts State Police Bagpiper that played Amazing Grace as he walked off down the road. It was truly a perfect start to the event!
We were honored to have Trooper Barry's wife and children join us for this event. The entire Barry family stood next to the driveway and waved to all the motorcyclist and their passengers as they drove out of the parking lot. As the bikers were leaving they passed under a huge American flay that was hung over the entrance to the Outlaw BBQ by ladder truck from Sharon and Foxboro Fire Departments.
After the run all enjoyed a great Pulled Pork BBQ from Dale Bishop's Pig Picken and the live bands that came out to donate their time for the event. There was also a motorcycle car washing being done with all the money raised going to the Trooper Barry Memorial Fund. Following the meal many raffles were given away and both Dale Bishop and FOP State President Arnie Larson addressed the crowd and thanked them for coming out for the Barry family.
The Massachusetts FOP looks forward to being a big part of next year's event and hopes that it continues to grow in size. The State Board would like to thank all those that were involved in putting the First Annual Trooper Paul F. Barry Run together, especially Dale Bishop, Cheryl Willis and Tracey Juda!
