ATHOL, Mass. -- An Athol woman whose car was hit by a pumpkin thrown from a highway overpass was angry and upset Thursday about the prank that sent her to the hospital.
NewsCenter 5's Pam Cross reported that Lilli Carroll, 52, was driving home around midnight on Route 2 after a long day at work when she suddenly saw a shadow as she neared her exit.
"Not knowing what it is, it's dead of night, no lights on the highway and when it hit the windshield I [gasped] and I hung on to the steering wheel," Carroll said
The windshield of Carroll's Ford Escort was smashed by a pumpkin thrown from the Highland Avenue overpass. Just two weeks ago the same thing happened miles away on Route 2 in Harvard, again smashing a windshield but causing no serious injuries.
Carroll is angry about the cost of repairs and at those who put her life in jeopardy.
"When the pumpkin hit, it broke the bottom part of the windshield and broke my dashboard. What I'm angry about is people doing stupid things as a prank towards others and then [the victims] have to pay the price to get their life back in order, to go about their business, and these people ... they think it's a big gag," Carroll said.
Carroll suffered some glass fragments in her arm that were removed by doctors. Her husband made a plea to the public to contact police with information before anyone else is more seriously hurt.
If any person has any information regarding this investigation they are encouraged to contact the State Police Athol Barracks 978-249-4341 or the Phillipston Police Department at 978-939-8875.
