Interview Tomorrow

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

So, Tomorrow I have an interview for a dispatch postion in my area. I've applied to many places and got the "Thanks but no thanks" letters... finally I got someone to bite.... The thing that really threw me off is they asked me if I will interview tomorrow. Obviously I'm going to say yes, but geez. I'm looking to see if anyone has gone thru an interview for a dispatcher recently and what to expect. I remember I interviewed a few years back for a position with the State Police Cell Hell and it was more of an interrogation than and interview. However, my girlfriend is a dispatcher for a pd in central mass. and says her interview was easier than getting a job at cvs. I'm looking to find out what some of the interviews were like that many of you have had.

As always thanks!

they are probably going to ask you if you are good at multi tasking and if u handle stressful situations well .. just think up some good expiriences in ur previous jobs that you can use as an example

good luck

If you have anything on your record, ie KQ, BOP, come right out and be open and honest. we have hired people who had bad driver historys and explained themselves. But don't think they don't know or won't find out.

PM if you have any other questions

Well Guys... Thanks for all of the help. So, I went to the interview... its was nothing like the interrogation @ Cell Hell. As suggested by Hockeyman4, they asked me questions about how I handle stressful situations and the sort. Thanks bud! Anyways, They offered me the job before I even left the building. I almost fell out of my chair when they asked me when I could start. They asked me why i was so surprised. I was expecting them to interview and then complete background checks etc... They told me that they do background checks before they bring you in for an interview because if things dont check out they simply just wont bring you in. Good point I guess.... But Anyways... Thanks for everyones help! I belong to many forums and MASSCOPS by far is the best!

L4G81 - 2 suggestions....

1. Be completely open an honest. If you think you are going to be able to hide something... your wrong. Many departments will hire you if you made mistakes in the past (depending on what they are) as long as you disclose then and they dont think your hiding anything.

2. Think before you speak. If you dont know the answer, you dont know the answer. Dont try to guess. If you dont know, tell them that you simply dont know.

Dont stress over the interview. You'll be fine. Remember the suit! "Dress to Impress" . Professionalism is what they are looking for as you are interviewing for a job that does require you to show the utmost professionalism and responsibility.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

Good Luck

What barracks???

if they ask you a question, chances are they already know the answer and are waiting for you to get caught in a lie. Don't fall for it.

If it's that serious then you don't belong on the job to begin with.

Don' t know if the comment above had anything to do with my previous comments, but I don't think it did???....

Anyways, the interview was a piece of cake. All this was, was a computer program for assessment testing, basically putting you in a call situation program where you would have to type in the necessary information while also taking another call that had to be directed to the appropriate department (EMS, Utility, etc) depending on the caller's situation. Thankfully my wpm average is around 70, so it was more fun then stressful. If my score falls into the bracket that they are looking for, then I will get the call back in the next 2-3 weeks for the next interview session.

Thanks to all of you who PM'd me wishing me luck, etc!
