Police chase ends after car hits house

FRAMINGHAM -- A Framingham man who police said rammed a cruiser and a house with his car in an effort to avoid being arrested Monday skipped out on court yesterday.
A Framingham District Court warrant has been issued for the arrest of Darryl E. Williams, 45, who failed to appear for his arraignment yesterday on eight charges. Monday's arrest was the sixth this year for Williams, who was released on bail from the police station during the night.
Officers Matt Gutwill and Greg Reardon were on patrol on Beaver Street at about 10:30 p.m. when they saw a car pull out in front of them and reach speeds of 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, Lt. Paul Shastany said.
The pair pulled the vehicle over on Beaver Court, Shastany said.
"As Officer Reardon walked toward the car, he noticed the vehicle started moving slowly," said Shastany. "He yelled for the car to stop, and the driver turned, looked at him, and drove off."
The vehicle passed two cars and then slammed into an oncoming cruiser driven by Officer John Moore. Police believe Williams of 105 Irving St. intentionally hit the cruiser because there was enough room to go around it, Shastany said. The cruiser suffered no damage because it was hit on the push bar.
The car continued on with both cruisers chasing it until it crashed into a three-family home at 231 Irving St., Shastany said.
"It caused significant damage to the foundation," said Shastany. "The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot, but the officers caught up, and he kicked and shoved the officers."
Gutwill did suffer a minor left forearm injury in the struggle to arrest Williams, Shastany said.
A female passenger in the car suffered neck, face and back injuries in the crash, while another male passenger was taken into protective custody.
Shastany said the officers asked the woman why Williams tried to get away, and she said because he did not have a license.
Williams was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, operating a vehicle negligently as to endanger, leaving the scene of an accident that caused personal injury, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident that caused property damage, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and refusing to stop for police.
He was also cited for speeding, a red light violation and a marked lanes violation.
