Ocoee Police and rescue crews dove into murky water overnight to search for anyone who might have been inside a sinking SUV. But they didn't find anyone in the water. The dramatic scene unfolded on Lake Florence Drive, about a half mile south of Silver Star Road and Good Homes Road. Ocoee police officers said instinct is what led them to take off their duty gear and jump in the lake shortly before midnight Tuesday. "When you're responding you don't know if anyone is in the vehicle or if there are children. You want to be sure no one's drowning," said Officer Jack Davidson of the Ocoee Police Department. A witness reported seeing two people in a car halfway submerged in a body of water south of Silver Star Road and Good Homes Road in west Orange County. When help arrived, rescue workers saw nothing but tail lights coming from the lake. "We did a thorough search from top of water. We broke some windows from the vehicle, but found nobody in the water," said Lt. Charles Sosa of the Orange County Fire Rescue. Turns out, the car in question had been carjacked from its rightful owner near Hastings and Jennings in the Pine Hills area about an hour before. Whoever stole it dumped it in the lake hoping no one would ever find it. "It's pretty murky water, so you have to be up against the car or whatever is out there. It's just murky," added Sosa.
